From The Associated Press, 5/16/08:

Crude's latest surge comes a week before the Memorial Day holiday, the
traditional start of the summer driving season, suggesting that retail
gas prices still have further to rise.

Motorists are now paying a national average of $3.787 a gallon for
regular gasoline, up nearly a penny from the previous day, according
to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service.

³Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas
prices by cracking down on price gouging, rolling back the billions of
dollars in taxpayer subsidies, tax breaks and royalty relief given to
big oil and gas companies, and increasing production of alternative
fuels.²

Democrats have a plan to lower gas prices.join Democrats who are
working to lower gas prices now."

You seriously expect oilman Bush to push for reform in the oil
industry.... That would be a conflict of interest on his part... Oil is
going through the same bubble as housing and banking
once everyone realizes how bad the ripples effect is from oil profits the
industy will settle back
down to something more normal. It's not OPEC that is causing the problems,
it's speculators
that are taking advantage, to boost the price of gas to bring in bucks for
oil companies and their
stock holders. The oil company is also at fault by not having enough
refineries to keep up with
growth in America ... You would think that with record profits they would
invest some in building and upgrading American refineries. But they are in
no rush to do so because they now have a way
to control their profit share....

Right now they are in a position to make up for years of losses, and once
the realization sets in
on how oil is degrading life in this country things will setlle down
eventually but you have seen
the last of "cheap" gas... I do see gas jumping to $5 or $6 a gallon before
the market starts to
settle. I look for an eventual average price somewhere around $3 a gallon
when it's all said and
done....
