They should have known all along from the Patriot Act and the
political climate generally. The jingoistic legacy media had been
gush hyping "9/11 changed EEEEEVERything" 24/7/52 for years. As
everyone knows "9/11 changed EEEEEVERything" meant the war on terror
was more important than the constitution, the economy or wasting a few
trillion on mideast despotisms.
Obama never claimed that he was changing everything and Obama
certainly never indicated that he was changing the spying that started
under BushCo/legacy media noise. If he had he would have touted his
changes at a formal event. Half of Americans don't care too much
about NSA spying anyway.
Has anyone even heard of any arrests of non terrorist criminals
because of the spying, i.e., a meth dealer getting busted by local law
enforcement tipped off by NSA?
If no one knew of any 4th Amend. violations then why should it be a
high priority for Obama?
Once again, if you want the 4th Amendment and other rights to be in
full effect then you must _first_ ensure that the First Amendment is
fully operational.
Jefferson and Tocqueville were clear on this all important truth.
Tocqueville mentions countries that are free with only one right,
freedom of speech. It's not like any of the other amendments mean
anything w/o freedom of speech.
The only public figure alive today who seems to understand this all
important truth is Justice Ginzberg.
