Today was an excellent day for expressing our first amendment rights. We had
some atheists protesting the nativity and a Christmas decorations being
displayed on public property.
So being that it was -20 out, we smashed a couple of dozen eggs on the heads
and clothes of those intolerant atheists. You will be surprised how quick
that gook freezes in this temperture. Any way in the shuffle some atheists
slipped and a few of them suffered some broken bones and noses from slipping
into our fists.
I am so glad I am not a Christian, I would hate not being able to hit these
atheists who make fun of, and like to restrict the rights of the Christians.
So to all you newdow pricks out there who are offended by a couple of words
in the pledge because you are so intolerant, stand by to get the kicking you
all deserve.
--
Atheism teaches that there is no God, hence no God-given rights. That
ideology coupled with a system that believed in the superiority of the state
at the expense of the individual was murderously synergistic.

Hmmm... nope... I don't recall assault being one of the rights guaranteed
under the 1st.
And eggs? What kind of pathetic fascist uses eggs? What, did you have to
hock your jack boots to afford hungry man dinners?

Dude, you threw eggs. Not quite the "tea party" you think it is.

Part of the new, emerging religion called "hate."

Dana is one of those people that just *enjoys hate. And as the extreme
right wing in the US is trying to whip up that segment of the population
into hating "liberals" (which may or may not be actual liberals, the
target isn't all that important), that's who it's become acceptable to
just revel in hating.

Atheists are perceived as "liberals." Even if they're Libertarians or
something. Doesn't matter. Ideology is irrelevant. The hate is for the
sake of hate.

And Godwin be damned, this really *is what it looked like in the early
days of the Nazi movement.

Lets specify here. Not all atheists, just the secular humanist types.
Now if the atheist actually has no belief in religion, nor does he/she
involve himself/herself in attacking or insulting the religious, I have no
issues with that kind of atheist. The one's I take issue with are the one's
like Newdow, and others who are actively attacking the religious in America.
Those that complain about nativity scenes, or the phrase under God in the
pledge, etc. Those kind of atheists need to learn some tolerance.
Also I never claimed to not be a theist, although deism is more to what I
believe, I have only claimed not to be a Christian.
And mostly because I do not turn the other cheek, nor do I believe the Bible
is in-errant. I think the Bible has some good teachings, but it also has
some stuff I have issues with, as well as the fact the bible has been
interpreted my man many times now, hence it's meaning has been diluted.

As long as the atheists attack the religious, I will attack the atheists. I
think that is fair. Since the religious will not fight, I will fight for
them. I myself think the Christians need to ditch their turn the other cheek
stuff, and fight back against what you atheists are doing to them in
America.

That's pathetic when a person is so starved for company on Christmas
Eve that he has to incite people with lies so that they pay attention
to him. He must be just as nasty in real life as he is on usenet. It
is no wonder that no one wants to spend any time with him.

My holiday wish for him is that he finds the attention he so ardently
seeks.

Ah, and when has he physically assaulted you?

Being spanked in Usenet for being an idiot is not a crime, it's a
public service. Man, not even having the balls to actually go out and
egg people, but making shit up about it, that's pretty sad. I

Well, since the only thing Dana would WANT would be a cheap whore,
that works out rather nicely, doesn't it?

Oh boy, are you guys playing "Israel on the West Bank"? Can I be the
suicide bomber. Can I, can I, huh?

Sorry, that's just my vague impression of the retaliation game. Granted,
certain theists are probably building illegal settlements on your land
(ie bugging the crap out of you). I'd say their purpose was just to save
y'all from the eternal barbie. You know, love thy enemies and all that.
But, sadly, the purpose seems to be the big "neener, neener" instead.

But, even though I can dig where you're coming from, doesn't tit for tat
just escalate things? What about the golden rule? It's an equal
opportunity rule, perfectly acceptable outside of theology, and possibly
originating before Christianity, or so I'm told.

The other image I have is a football one. You know how one player will
start something, but the ref always seems to catch the second man, the
one who retaliates. Meaning that here, when someone retaliates, and
someone else lurks, all they see is the anger and the attacking, not
what started it. Don't you think that might be a bit off-putting, and
contributing to a general image and reputation of atheism that might not
be what y'all want to project? One of anger, hate and occasional
foulness?

My my, just look at the compassion from the left. Why does the left have the
desire to lable everyone with value designations.
Is there a difference between a person weather they are cheap or expensive.
And why must they pick on the poor ladies that can be seen to be more honest
in their relationships than some married ladies. At least the Whore is up
front about it, it is all about the money, you have quite a few ladies who
indeed can themseleves be called whores as they do not love their mate, only
his money.
Like the jewlery commercials I heard over this past Christmas season, since
when is an expensive piece of jewlery an expression of love. Love is based
on actions and deeds a person does for another, love cannot be bought.

I'm not a member of any group that claims it for its own. If Dana is
let him apply it, although I wasn't aware that Coprophagia had a
philosophy.

It originated with Hammurabi, so it's MUCH older than Christianity -
nearly 2 millennia older. And that's only the first set of laws we
know about. A philosophy like that doesn't spring up overnight.

No, since there's nothing I want to project, or not project. I'm not
a projector. Atheism isn't a philosophy, it's not a club, it's
nothing more than is lack of belief in Santa Claus.

Tell that to the burglar you find in your living room - it's the same
situation. The purpose of alt.atheism is NOT for theists to tell us
how wrong we are, regardless of what they think the situation is. If
we wanted to read what they say, we'd be reading in the theistic news
groups.

Yeah, I keep forgetting, even though I say it myself. It's Usenet. I
just hate to see folks going at it. I try not to say things to folks
that I wouldn't have the guts to say in person.

Doesn't always come out that way, though. I think I go into "preachy"
mode sometimes. At least when I re-read myself, that's what it looks
like. Might be because I write better than I talk, and come out more
self-assured. I'm not, really. Still trying to figure things out, just
like everyone else.

I do prefer more intellectual fare, though. Maybe I'll just have to come
here for fun, and go elsewhere for intelligent debate. There are a
couple of interesting YABB boards (theistweb or skepticweb, err, or
something like that), but they're almost too stuffy.

We had the same situation on alt.music.queen. A group of folks getting
along fairly well, then suddenly some wanker comes in and tells us what
losers we are, how Queen isn't a band any more, and how we should listen
to real music. Most of us felt the group was for Queen *fans*, but one
of us AMQ'ers pointed out that the group wasn't called "alt.fan.queen"
and was therefore open to anyone who wanted to discuss Queen. And let's
face it, if the hater wants to come in, there's nothing stopping him, no
matter how unpleasant we might try to make it for him.

As you say, this is usenet. Who cares what the purpose of *any* group
was *supposed* to be. It is what it is. So we deal as best we can, I
suppose. I flash peace signs, you rattle cages. To each his own.

Fairbanks has been running between zero and minus 30 all week. Nine
above at Barror this time of year (night) is pretty unusually warm.
He mentioned that the days are about three hours long right now, so
Fairbanks is a pretty good match.

I remember some years back, this one guy -- like Dana, a pseudo
religious right wing whack job -- went up to the Bering Straits to
count Bowhead whales. He emailed us in So. Cal, rhapsodizing about
the midnight sun and how hard it was to sleep.

The only trouble was, not only was he at the Arctic circle, but it
was mid September. That time of year, the days are about 12 hours and
ten minutes long...

-26 in Fairbanks at 6pm.
The interior of Alaska where Fairbanks is located has the most extreme
weather swings in the state. Fairbanks has hit close to 100 in the summer,
and has seen -60 in the winter.
The Alaska range keeps the weather from the Pacific away from us, and the
Brooks range keeps the weather from Barrow away from us. The interior is
like a bowl between these two ranges, hence the heat in the summer, and the
extreme cold in the winter.
In the winter we also get ice fog because of the inversion layer. Ends up
forcing all the exhaust closer to the ground, from the hills outside of
Fairbanks, you can see all the streets due to the haze that outlines the
street grid, and just hangs there.
All in all not a bad place to benot a lot of good jobs, but enough to keep
the majority employed, but the lifestyle up here is great.

Yeah, it's difficult to get the facts straight when you make things
up. That's why people like Earl and Dana are such laughingstocks.

The weather channel reports
http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/pastweather/USAK0083?when=122203&stn=1
Dec 22 high 3 low -11
Dec 23 high -10 low -23
Dec 24 high -12 low -28
Dec 25 high -9 low -14

(The temperatures measures at the AF base are somewhat higher than
these.)

6pm is well after sunset. I doubt that it was anywhere near -20
during the few hours of daylight. But the weather channel has a
forecasted low of -19, so I doubt that it was -26 at 6pm unless you
are using Celsius temperatures, which you aren't, given the following
paragraph:

>The interior of Alaska where Fairbanks is located has the most extreme

Again, a liar.

Your statement said that it was "a fine day", and hence not 6PM, which
is not day when sunset is at 3:43PM. (You made your post at 4PM,
which appears to be around the warmest time of day).
>Today was an excellent day for expressing our first amendment rights. We had
>some atheists protesting the nativity and a Christmas decorations being

>So being that it was -20 out, we smashed a couple of dozen eggs on the heads

Your story has lost even more credibility.

Oh, and the police report in the Fairbanks paper reports things a lot
less newsworthy than protesters or assaults on protesters:
http://www.news-miner.com/Stories/0,1413,113%257E7244%257E1853593,00.html

But if you insist, there are a couple of emails given for reporters,
and I'm sure someone will find it in them to check with them if there
was such an "atheist protest" on Dec 24. Somehow, I rather doubt it.

What bob does not know is that Fairbanks has a very severe inversion layer.
While downtown fairbanks may be in the -20's, up in the hills around town
may be at 0.
North Pole Alaska which is approx 13 miles south of fairbanks is usually 10
degrees cooler than Fairbanks. Yes this is the North Pole where the kids all
send their letters to santa. The post office uses volunteers to postmark the
Santa letters, and to help answer the letters. Both the Army and AF base, as
well as the local communities all help out.
Back to the inversion layer, even here in the dead of winter when it is -20
and lower you can see the heat waves from the inversion layer as you drive
on long straight sections of the highway. The layer also acts as a magnifier
for the Alaska range, distorting the image of the range. Actually pretty
neat stuff. To actually see the different layers of cold air is pretty neat.

Well ain't this just quaint. I don't know where you got your figures
from, or if you just can't read! Here, let me show you the recorded
temperatures in Barrow for the past 24 hours. I have a program that
downloads this and archives it daily, from the NOAA website at

http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/PABR.html

This is automatically reformatted for easier reading, but what will
notice is that the *highest* temperature recorded in Barrow during the
past 24 hours was -5F, and the hourly summary shows a -9F. The low
was -20F, and as you can see from the summary it has pretty much been
at about -15F almost all day and night.

Where ever it was that you got that +9F from, is simply *wrong*. The
last time it was above 0F here was on the 24th. It has been several
days since it the low wasn't at least -20F here.

Whatever, here's the current weather and a summary of the past

More like 13 hours (and 7 minutes at 66 degrees North on September
15th). But it is dark there from 10PM to 7AM (nautical twilight or
darker), so the story would indeed be totally bogus.

However! Did he tell you he saw bowhead whales in the Straits
in September? That in itself is a bit hilarious, since they
only get *here* in early October (from Canadian waters headed
for the Bering Sea). Maybe the ones the travel up along the
Siberian coast go through earlier, but I doubt it.

Well, so what? If you wait until it actually gets *cold*, you'll
find that the Eielson AFB temps are 5 to 15 degrees colder than
Fairbanks. The longer it stays cold, and the colder it is, the bigger
the difference.

Whatever, NOAA is reporting -31F in Fairbanks right now. I can't
imagine anyone there thinking that is unusual, or even cold. They can
literally go for weeks in January and February without ever getting
that warm.

Well, damned, hit me with a stick! *YOU* are ignorant!

I lived in Salcha, 40 miles southwest of Fairbanks (on the other side
of Eielson AFB) for two decades. Let me tell you a couple things.

1) It gets warmer than 95 degrees in June, July, and August.
2) It gets down to -60 at the Fairbanks International Airport,
which is the *warmest* weather station in the area. It gets
down to -70 at most of the others.

OK, so you don't know how to read Usenet headers. He posted it
a few minutes after 6 PM AKST. You also have a very strange
idea of what "a fine day" means! It doesn't refer to a fine
"period of sunlight". Or at least not to anybody I know! (We

salubrious climate (18 above, no snow on the ground right now, sunrise
7:35, sunset 4:50), but I keep a wary eye on the weather in Fairbanks
and in the Gulf, because what's going on there can affect us here a
few days later. Alberta clippers out of interior Alaska meant for the
Dakotas sometimes miss and hit us instead, driving temps to ten below
and even twenty below. That's mild by your standards, but folks here
aren't used to it; the time it hit -21 (wind chill of -45) a third of
the town lost its plumbing because folks didn't know to crack their
taps. More frequently, cold will spill out of the interior, meet up
with a big storm out of the Gulf of Alaska, and dump up to twenty feet
of snow on us (I've personally seen a fourteen foot snowfall).
Fairbanks this year is colder than it's been in recent years (although
temps of -50 used to be pretty common there), and we've been wetter
than usual, so I've been keeping an eye peeled for big snow. A six
footer went south of us and hit the Sierra instead last week.

So Dana suddenly likes unions now, hmmm?

At the current moment, 2:30 PM eastern, the temperature in, say, Nome,

Nome Airport.

Not according to NOAA and and the Date: header on your article.

There are no meterologists at the Post Rogers Memorial Airport.

Barrow.)

You don't get weather reports from the airport. You get them from
NOAA or the NWS.

As I noted, the figures you gave weren't correct. I have no idea
where you got them, but they weren't accurate according to NOAA.

Fairbanks is watched by every meteorologist in the country. The
weather there is indeed an indication of what is happening with the
north-south jet stream (which kinda acts like a hose squirting
warm air into Alaska; which can be "normal" and be far enough south
to keep Kodiak warm, or it can get farther north and make Fairbanks
warm in January... which will push cold air from Siberia over into
Canada and Canadian air down into the mid-west, which makes for
a real nasty winter storm for somebody out there!).

Ain't it good for a giggle! Poor guy ranted for years about how
bad they were, and now he's got a good union job (and it isn't
hard to see just exactly what's so good about unions!) working
in the telecom industry.

For Barrow, I have my choice of readings at the airport, Wainwright,
Kaparuk Airport, Deadhorse Airport, Anaktuvuk Pass, Cape Lisburne and
a few other locations. Oh, and they're live readings - updating as I
watch. 1:30 AM (Sunday) eastern readings at Post Rogers are:

-9 degrees
wind from the east @ 17mph
77% humidity
Barometer 30.30 steady
etc.

For Barrow, you have a choice of readings at the NWS office. It is,
strictly speaking, *not* at the airport. (It is physically located
a block way from the airport, on separate property, and there are
private homes between it and the airport.)

Claiming the others provide Barrow weather readings is absurd.
You clearly have *no* idea what you are talking about!

>Wainwright,
>Kaparuk Airport, Deadhorse Airport, Anaktuvuk Pass, Cape Lisburne and
>a few other locations.

Well... whatever you say Hoss. Wainwright is /90/ /miles/ southwest of
Barrow, Kaparuk and Deadhorse are a couple hundred miles east, while
Anaktuvuk a couple hundred miles south, and Cape Lisburne is 300 miles
west.

A few other locations? You missed only Point Lay (200 miles west),
Umiat (124 miles south), and Nuiqsut (150 or so east).

You've named weather stations over a 500 mile range and said they
were for Barrow!

> Oh, and they're live readings - updating as I
>watch.

Live readings? Do you know what an AWOS is? Automatic Weather
Observation System. All of those come from an AWOS except Barrow
and Cape Lisburne, where there are individual instruments in
the old fashioned way (all of which are still automatically
monitored in the same way as an AWOS is).

> 1:30 AM (Sunday) eastern readings at Post Rogers are:

I posted the URL to look directly at the NOAA report. Big deal.

Well, it wouldn't be a big deal except that at the time someone
reported 9 degrees (not -9), it had been *days* since it was that
warm here.

If you want to impress *me* with your knowledge of weather in
Barrow, you'll have to do more than quote something you don't
understand from a weather URL on Internet. I've been inside
almost every one of those AWOS huts that are mentioned above...
