HEAD: Democrats worried about a backlash
The press releases that popped into my e-mail this week were hoots. U.S.
Reps. Mark Schauer and Gary Peters defiantly announced they had cast their
votes against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's request to raise the federal debt
ceiling by $2 trillion.
What the releases conveniently neglected to mention is that before the
Michigan Democrats voted against raising the debt ceiling, they voted for
the new spending that made lifting the limit necessary.
Schauer and Peters have voted lock step with Pelosi and the liberal House
leadership since unseating Republican incumbents in 2008.
They're suddenly posing as deficit hawks because of growing concern that the
most vulnerable Democrats -- those like Schauer and Peters who were elected
from traditionally conservative districts in the anti-Republican wave of the
past two elections -- will be punished by voters angry about the massive
expansion of government.
Schauer of Battle Creek and Peters of Bloomfield Township serve constituents
who aren't used to their representatives saluting San Francisco-style big
government policies.
Pelosi is freeing a number of these at-risk members to cast votes that will
play better in their districts -- but not enough of them to place passage of
her priorities in jeopardy.
It's not likely to fool voters. But it provides hope the Democratic congress
is starting to hear the loud howls of public protest over what they're
doing.
Pelosi said she wouldn't change course on health care just because Americans
are turning against the plan.
But her members aren't so cocky. Reports circulated last week that a
half-dozen Democratic representatives from swing districts are considering
retiring rather than explain to voters why they helped push the country so
far to the left.
Recent polls show upward of 61 percent of voters oppose the Democratic
health care plans. And for the first time, a Wall Street Journal poll says a
plurality of voters would prefer that Congress do nothing.
Democrats like to blame the discontent on GOP scare tactics. The reality is
they've scared Americans themselves with a proposal that is too costly and
complex. Americans tell pollsters they don't believe the promise that the
plan will provide more coverage for less money and most think they'll be
worse off than they are now.
(Speaking of scare tactics, President Barack Obama moved this week from
warning that voters would punish politicians for not passing health care
reform to grimly predicting that failure to pass a bill would bankrupt the
country. That is, if the unfunded liabilities of Social Security and
Medicare and his $1.5 trillion deficit spending binge don't push it into
insolvency first.)
Pelosi's maneuver to provide cover to representatives like Schauer and
Peters who have voted against the will of their districts won't be enough to
protect them if Congress keeps bullying the nation in a direction the people
don't want to go.

Maybe, just maybe, we're seeing the beginning of the tsunami that will sweep
the maggot-treat Dems from Congress in eleven months. Let us pray.

Yes... That is a good idea. Pray.
Assuming the bill will pass the Senate as now seems the case, and that
the chess playing Democratic House signs off on the Senate version (at
this point only a wish), the Democrats are in the catbird seat, and so
too the majority of the American people. The Republicans will be howling
and yowling about the usual "socialism" and "big government" Boogerman
while the Democrats are proposing _*NEW*_ legislation to create the
_FULLY_PAID_BY_PREMIUMS_ Public Option and the expansion of Medicare to
augment the current law. That is not a very good prospect for
Republicans because 60% of the people in this country _WANT_ those
expansions of government.

Your little leftwing power grab is known for what it is and it isn't
better, cheaper healthcare
for all so go lick your hero BO's ass some more because evidently you
like the taste of
marxist shit!
Would these be the same voters who cheered Emperor Bush as he presided
over the largest expansion of federal government powers and (deficit)
spending in U.S. history? Then Chairman Obama inherits those same
powers and all of the sudden they are worried that he is acting like a
dictator.
Despite their moral bankruptcy, the Republicans might have some
credibility if they were at least consistent in their stupidity. But
instead of offering any ideas of substance, they simply parrot some
empty slogans critical of policies that they themselves are
responsible for.
THE DEFICIT IS TOO BIG!
THE GOVERNMENT IS SPYING ON AMERICANS!
NATIONAL HEALTH CARE (but not Medicare Part D) IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

My God, you are vapid, aren't you! You do think small, don't you! All you
can do is cackle "nanner, nanner, nanner" when it's the Dems selling you
into penury instead of the Republicans.
You are unable to comprehend what is being done to you (and if you are ever
allowed to breed, your progeny) by the dud Dems now running Congress and the
Da Li'L Prick in Da Honky Crib in Da Hood (formerly The White House).
Dank is not a proper nym for you..."Dull" is more appropriate.

I already said I am not defending Democrats, simply observing that
Republicans are every bit as anti-freedom as their supposed
opposition.
You seem to think that since Hitler opposes Stalin, Hitler must be
good. But the opposite of evil isn't necessarily good, just another
type of evil.

Then we agree, Da li'l Prick, The Dim Bulb From Search Light, and Dirty Leg

you first you stupid piece of shit.
Aw c'mon John. You just can't be that stupid. Or maybe you can. OK,
let's explain it one more time. The Healthcare Reform bill aims at
cheaper insurance, not cheaper healthcare. Nothing in either the
House bill or the Senate bill imposes any restrictions on medical
facilities or providers. All healthcare providers and all their
equipment and buildings remain in private hands. Neither bill
attempts to regulate or interfere with medical treatment--all control,
all decisions, all treatment, remain in the control of the
physicians. Even the public option in the House bill simply allows
citizens to pool their money for healthcare with a government agency
rather than a private insurance company.
It's not a power grab, or Communism, or Socialism, or Nazism, or
National Socialism, or any other ism; it's rational and equitable
government service. Admittedly, the legislation will hamper your
Capitalist heroes from raking in huge profits off the backs of the
working class, the elderly, the indigent, and the unfortunate, but
your idols, the idle rich, will still be able to flash fancy clothes
and arrange lavish parties for you to dream about.
aND, since congress listens to them, not us, its a done deal.
Seriously, this debate and rage has been focused on the wrong things to
begin with. Apparently 5.6% profit margin is enough to whip the country
into a frenzy... so how are the rest of these getting off?
(all info from YaHoo! Finance @ http://biz.yahoo.com/p/sum_conameu.html)

and they won't let us get cheaper drugs from overseas? It's not a
question of "they aren't safe". These are the same drugs that these same
manufacturers sell in the US.
If the supposed problem is that Health insurance is gouging immoral
profits out of the people, then the govt as missed its primary target.

Some years ago, a few of us got together to form a small business
corporation. In the third year, business exploded, and we were all
able to pay ourselves substantial salaries. But oddly enough, after
taking out all of our salaries, our auto expenses, our entertainment
expenses, and every other expense our clever accountant could dream
up, our little corporation suffered a substantial loss for the year
even though were swimming in available cash. If we had issued public
stock, those stockholders would have been left with nothing--profit
margin was actually a negative.
What we think dont matter. The Almighty Dollar always has the last word.
Then when you do, explain to all of us why this is not a big problem.

"massive expansion of government" occurred under bush,jr, the incompetent.
It has NOT occurred under Obama.
Step by step he is reversing the excesses and ideologically driven failed
policies of the twenty years starting with Reagan and ending with bush,jr,

Give us some examples of where he is reversing excesses in govt with at
least a 12%
budget increase overall?
C'mon, show us his fiscal conservative programs
And we don't want to hear any class warfare Wall Street BS, show us
where in government
he is reigning in costs and making them more conservative fiscally!
C'mon SID, you made the claim now show us the money!
It took prompt action...which started at the end of the bush,jr
administration, while bush,jr was waiting for the moving van to take him to
Texas, to stop our descent into another Great Depression.
Smart, prompt action continued by the Obama administration, set us on the
path to recovery.
The damage done by Republicans, Reagan, HW Bush, and bush,jr over twenty
years cannot be repaired in months.
> But it took an expanding government to halt expansion of "The Great
> Bush Depression."
You haven't halted shit, inflation just startin to kick in, still
losing jobs....
We would have been better off and less in debt if you assholes had done
nothing!
Just like FDR extended the effects of the great depression into the 50's your
fool BO is doing the same!
If you look around, you will find that doctors and facilities are
turning away Medicare patients at an alarming rate. The government
(Medicare and Medicaid) underpay for their clients. This bill is going
to expand that and more. The only alternative they have would be to cut
staff and services. So yes, it will screw up our already screwed up
system. But insurance companies are not the problem--the expense of
medical care is, and this bill does nothing for that issue.
Furthermore, you are incorrect about government deciding your services
you receive. This bill is loaded with over 100 new bureaucracies and
those people will dictate what services you are allowed to have. With
insurance, they permit and pay for tests that doctors want to provide.
They do so because they are for profit, and understand that without such
tests, it could lead to more costly medical problems down the road.
With government, they don't care. They are not out to make a profit.

Bush was the President for eight years. Obama has not been President for
about one year. You are comparing apples to oranges. But here are the
