HEAD: Dem recruits continue to head for exits
By Aaron Blake
Democrats have lost yet another touted recruit, this time in Kansas.
State Sen. Laura Kelly (D) just announced her withdrawal from the race to
face Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-Kan.). She becomes the fifth formidable recruit to
bow out in recent weeks.
I have been forced to make a decision between honoring the pledge I made to
the people in my Senate district and my firm conviction that the people of
the 2nd congressional district deserve a truly independent voice in
Congress," Kelly said in a statement.
This has been a very hard decision, but it is the right one.
Kelly joins several recent dropouts, including businessman Jack McDonald, a
well-funded challenger to Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) who announced last
week that he wouldn't run. The others are Ohio state Rep. Todd Book, who was
running against Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio); former Tennessee Commerce and
Insurance Commissioner Paula Flowers, who was running for Rep. Zach Wamp's
(R-Tenn.) seat; and Solana Beach City Councilman Dave Roberts, who was
running against Rep. Brian Bilbray (R-Calif.).
Both McDonald and Kelly were cited in a late October memo from DCCC Chairman
Chris Van Hollen (Md.) that touted the committee's recruiting successes.
On top of that, Democrats have lost four incumbents in vulnerable districts
to retirement recently. It has been a distinct shift, taking five seats off
the map on offense and adding four on defense.

That needs repeating: "It has been a distinct shift, taking five seats off

The only sad part about this story is that the rest of the Democrats
didn't join her.

Watch out for a possible back door plan by the dem's. It would not
surprise me to see many of the dem's that voted for healthcare to elect
not to run for re-election. Obama can then appoint them to some cushy DC
post as a thanks for the vote. Then, a "new" dem comes along and runs
claiming he never voted for the healthcare bill and wouldn't have done
so. Bingo-- we still have too many dem's in DC.
Lets just make sure their are more unemployed dems than open positions

So let's look at what we have.... We have the Democrats simply allowing
the screech monkeys to be represented by their Republican representatives
and a shift of real efforts to races where it is possible to rescue the
rational people. This is not 2008 or 2006. It is not necessary to take
Republican seats in order to prevail. The party should and will
concentrate most of its efforts on Senatorial races and on defending
_actual_ House Democrats from Republican liars. That is what an
intelligent and rational party in support of the common people will do.
The people who elect Jean Schmidt deserve her. I think we should have
much smaller districts where more people like Jean Schmidt and that
nutcase in Minnesota can get elected. These people can't actually cause
any harm because the rational majority will overpower them in the House.
I think that every wacko nest of morons should be represented and so to
the nests of rational people. Guess who wins....

The Republicans played this the right way this time. When you try to
blame Democrats for this or that, they always reply that it was a
bipartisan vote because five or six Republicans helped them along. They
won't be able to say that this time. But by the time this thing gets
hammered out, possibly end up in front of the Supreme Court, gets signed
by Obama, it may be a month or so, or even after the 2010 elections.
After the disasters hit, and people forget how this healthcare scam came
about, the liberals of the future will still try to pin it on
Republicans in the house.
