Bruce Fein for Attorney General

Fein is qualified. A much-published Harvard Law School graduate who
served as an associate deputy attorney general from 1981 to 1982
and as general counsel to the Federal Communications Commission,
he has frequently been called on by Republicans and Democrats to
help them sort through prickly Constitutional issues. ...

Bruce Fein's name belongs on the list of conservatives who would
make appropriate replacements for Alberto Gonzales. Indeed, Fein's
name should be at its top.

Listening to the Mainstream Media or Talk Radio, you'd never know
that a number of prominent conservatives have been critical of President
Bush's domestic and foreign policy and are distancing themselves
from today's Republican Party. ...

"The most conservative principles of the Constitution have been repeatedly
violated in the last several years. And they are a distrust in unchecked
power--a distrust in the belief that human nature is benevolent.
And building upon those conservative principles, the Founding Fathers
engrafted a system of checks and review of one branch by another--a
system of due process safeguards against injustice that is likely
to occur because of prejudice and fear. And those checks and balances
have eroded enormously over the last several years--particularly
since 9/11." -- Bruce Fein, American Freedom Agenda

WASHINGTON -- A new political group recently asked Mitt Romney to
promise not to wiretap Americans without a judge's approval or to
imprison US citizens without a trial as "enemy combatants." When
Romney declined to sign their pledge, the group denounced him as
"unfit to serve as president." ...

The American Freedom Agenda, which intends to put all candidates
in both parties to the same test, is aiming to revive a strand of
conservatism that they say has been drowned out since the terrorist
attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The conservative principle of limited
government, they say, means not just cutting the budget, but imposing
checks and balances on those who wield power.
