Nancy Pelosi correct going to the Middle East and ensuring that EWOC
GWBush does not represent the general population of the US!

Yes, so good that she went. Bushies' State Department has registered
a complaint with Nancy, saying she should not have gone. But they
didn't have any problems when a prevous delegation of Senators went
over did they? Naw, because it was all repuglinuts!

And Bush's people say that there has not been much ground gained in
talking to Syria's Assad. Well, EWOC, maybe you and your people just
don't know how to deal correctly. The Middle East does not like
American and other Western hegemonic imperialist interlopers like you
and Tony Blair. Your administration has sent Condo Rice and Karen
Hughes over to the Arab and Islamic nations to try to get them to bend
to your will by way of your brand of "diplomacy" and "demoKKKKracy"
and it didn't work. Heck, Karen Hughes had to take a fast exit out of
one of the countries.....she made THAT bad of an impression on those
people....

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Nancy! American Democratic hero AND patriot!

It is unfortunate, but I think her antics may make it tough for women
running in the next election. She has made a mockery of her position
demanding things no other speaker has ever requested, and then pulls
this stuff.

I hopr I am wrong.

Pratfall in Damascus
Nancy Pelosi's foolish shuttle diplomacy

Thursday, April 5, 2007; A16

HOUSE SPEAKER Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) offered an excellent demonstration
yesterday of why members of Congress should not attempt to supplant the
secretary of state when traveling abroad. After a meeting with Syrian
dictator Bashar al-Assad in Damascus, Ms. Pelosi announced that she had
delivered a message from Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert that "Israel was
ready to engage in peace talks" with Syria. What's more, she added, Mr.
Assad was ready to "resume the peace process" as well. Having announced this
seeming diplomatic breakthrough, Ms. Pelosi suggested that her Kissingerian
shuttle diplomacy was just getting started. "We expressed our interest in
using our good offices in promoting peace between Israel and Syria," she
said.

Only one problem: The Israeli prime minister entrusted Ms. Pelosi with no
such message. "What was communicated to the U.S. House Speaker does not
contain any change in the policies of Israel," said a statement quickly
issued by the prime minister's office. In fact, Mr. Olmert told Ms. Pelosi
that "a number of Senate and House members who recently visited Damascus
received the impression that despite the declarations of Bashar Assad, there
is no change in the position of his country regarding a possible peace
process with Israel." In other words, Ms. Pelosi not only misrepresented
Israel's position but was virtually alone in failing to discern that Mr.
Assad's words were mere propaganda.

Ms. Pelosi was criticized by President Bush for visiting Damascus at a time
when the administration -- rightly or wrongly -- has frozen high-level
contacts with Syria. Mr. Bush said that thanks to the speaker's freelancing
Mr. Assad was getting mixed messages from the United States. Ms. Pelosi
responded by pointing out that Republican congressmen had visited Syria
without drawing presidential censure. That's true enough -- but those other
congressmen didn't try to introduce a new U.S. diplomatic initiative in the
Middle East. "We came in friendship, hope, and determined that the road to
Damascus is a road to peace," Ms. Pelosi grandly declared.

Never mind that that statement is ludicrous: As any diplomat with knowledge
of the region could have told Ms. Pelosi, Mr. Assad is a corrupt thug whose
overriding priority at the moment is not peace with Israel but heading off
U.N. charges that he orchestrated the murder of former Lebanese prime
minister Rafiq al-Hariri. The really striking development here is the
attempt by a Democratic congressional leader to substitute her own foreign
policy for that of a sitting Republican president. Two weeks ago Ms. Pelosi
rammed legislation through the House of Representatives that would strip Mr.
Bush of his authority as commander in chief to manage troop movements in
Iraq. Now she is attempting to introduce a new Middle East policy that
directly conflicts with that of the president. We have found much to
criticize in Mr. Bush's military strategy and regional diplomacy. But Ms.
Pelosi's attempt to establish a shadow presidency is not only
counterproductive, it is foolish.

Like it or not, the US has yet to have a woman as president, so the
discussion isn't outside the bounds. It would be silly, of course, to
really disparage Hillary for antics by Pelosi. If Madam Speaker burps up
on her bib, I say blame no one but the sushi chef who served Bush's
father.

When Dennis Hastert went to Columbia in 1997 and told the leaders there to
ignore President Clinton and to deal directly with the Republican Congress,
was he wrong too? Or are you suggesting it was OK for him because he's a man
while Pelosi is merely a woman? Or was it OK for him being a Republican and
all, while it's "how DARE a Democratic party leader try to usurp ANY
function of our glorious leader, King George"?

If he really did that, then of course he was wrong. The US should speak
with one voice from its government on foreign policy and that is from
the president.

I'd like some actual evidence that what you claim really happened in the
way you claim it happened.

Personally, I believe that 9/11 should have taught us the lesson that we
can't let these countries simmer endlessly in disillusionment without
doing something about it because people become susceptible to delusional
ideas and delusional actions. Iraq, in my view, is but the first of many
efforts, certainly not all military, to remake the very face of the
world as constitutional representative democracy.

Well, BS ... not that I like Pelosi or Bush ... But you need to look at your
job description and go from there ... Pelosi should have looked around and
figured out the she ain't the foreign policy person ... jumped in her limo
and gone to the State department to make her point ... she is moving toward
being as big an idiot as Bush ...

Frnakly, I give far less of a damn about ""good will"" than I do about the
safety and security of the whole world. It ain't just us. London. Madrid.
I'm not saying that I KNOW the war in Iraq to be the answer, but I can't,
like many, pretend that I KNOW it isn't either.

DISINFORMATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No one is opposed to stem cell research,
pal. The opposition is to one method of obtaining the stem cells, AND, if
you really did your homeework, what you would KNOW is that adult stem cell
therapy is already being used, with significant success, while embyonic stem
cell research is still in the lab rat stages, and the rats INVARIABLY end up
with brain tumors!

that's not the point. you are entitled to think whatever you want of GWB,

Yep, and Robert Aderholt and Frank Wolf, who visited with Assad THE DAY
BEFORE Pelosi did, are going to make it tough for men running in the next
election as well. And let's not forget David Hobson, who visited Assad
with Pelosi.

No, just a moron woman like Nancy Pelosi.

What are her qualifications to go overseas and bargain with a
terrorist state?

You know who she's like?

"Bill Kawalec" <billk...@yahoo.com> wrote in message
news:mpKdnUn-c_Y24ovb...@comcast.com...

New York Times, March 31, 1997 -- reporting on a trip to China by House
Speaker Newt Gingrich, one week after Vice President Al Gore's trip:

Speaking with startling bluntness on an issue so delicate that diplomats
have tiptoed around it for years, Newt Gingrich said today that he had
warned China's top leaders that the United States would intervene militarily
if Taiwan was attacked.

As he left for Tokyo after a three-day trip to China, Mr. Gingrich said he
had made it absolutely clear how the United States would respond if such a
military conflict arose.

Referring to his meetings with China's leaders, Mr. Gingrich said: ''I
said firmly, 'We want you to understand, we will defend Taiwan. Period.'"

He also said, ''I think that they are more aware now that we would defend
Taiwan if it were militarily attacked.''

Mr. Gingrich, the Speaker of the House, delivered his message, among the
most forceful ever given about Taiwan by a visiting United States official,
to Wang Daohan, China's chief representative in talks with Taiwan. Mr.
Gingrich said he had given the same message to President Jiang Zemin and
Prime Minister Li Peng in Beijing last week.

Chinese leaders offered no public response to Mr. Gingrich today. But on
Friday, Mr. Jiang urged him to treat the Taiwan issue with care. . . .

Asked about Mr. Gingrich's statements, a Clinton Administration official
in Washington said Mr. Gingrich had received briefings about American policy
toward China, but that Mr. Gingrich ''was speaking for himself'' in his
conversations with Chinese leaders.

The White House issued a statement saying that the policy of the United
States was to ''meet its obligation under the Taiwan Relations Act,
including the maintenance of an adequate self-defense for Taiwan,'' and that
the Administration would maintain its ''one-China policy, the fundamental
bedrock of which is that both parties peacefully address the Taiwan issue. .
. ."

In an interview on Friday, Mr. Gingrich said he had spoken with Mr.
Clinton, and with Mr. Gore on several occasions, to make sure that their
messages to Beijing dovetailed. At the time, he did not mention his message
on Taiwan.

Several days later, Gingrich's remarks in China led to this -- New York
Times, April 4, 1997:
China admonished the United States today to speak with one voice on
foreign policy and accused Newt Gingrich of making ''improper'' statements
on Washington's commitment to defend Taiwan from any military attack by the
mainland.

The criticism was made by the Foreign Ministry spokesman, Shen Guofang,
who earlier this week had expressed basic satisfaction with remarks made by
Mr. Gingrich, the Speaker of the House, during a three-day visit to China.

The visit followed Vice President Al Gore's first trip to Beijing. Both
men spoke on issues of contention between Washington and Beijing, but Mr.
Gingrich's remarks were noteworthy for their directness and for exceeding
the normal State Department formulations on American commitments to Taiwan.

China's decision to criticize Mr. Gingrich came after he traveled to
Taiwan on Wednesday and met with President Lee Teng-hui.

Back then, the media treated Gingrich like he was the American Prime
Minister, and his right-wing supporters had no problem with the House
Speaker travelling and expressing his own foreign policy views which
deviated from the Clinton administration's. Quite the contrary, many
right-wing leaders -- including Grover Norquist, Ralph Reed, and Vin
Weber -- went on PBS and praised Gingrich's "aggressive role in China."

They couldn't have been more pleased that Gingrich did what, in their minds,
the Clinton administration was failing to do -- standing up to the Chinese.
Gingrich, as House Speaker, was heroic for going on his own and doing that.
The same behavior from Pelosi (which I'm sure is, in actuality, completely
different for all sorts of unknown and indiscernible reasons) is now both a
grave political mistake and a reckless breach of protocol.

We could make a fortune selling 'W' keys to Free Republic readers.

"Really, this is one of the 'W' keys that the Clinton people stole from
the White House! Only $10!!"

Like pieces of the True Cross to them...

We're talking about her stupidity.

She's the chief Surrender Monkey, more French than American.

Liberals are proud. But I guess it really doesn't matter a whole lot,
Old Fat Albert is telling me that the US will be under 20 feet of
water in a few years,

And the sky is falling.

Amir Taheri:

The most radical elements in the region liked Pelosi best if only
because she endorsed their campaign of vilification against the Bush
administration. Her motto was: Surrender before you have too, and
claim credit for it! She represented a superpower that, because no one
can take away anything from it, is prepared to give away everything.

The Pelosi Doctrine, as demonstrated during the tour, is the
opposite of the Bush Doctrine spelled out in 2002.

The Pope won't know. But the members of the church may well consider it
disrespectful.

The point is, it's simple courtesy to cover your head in a house of
worship if that's the custom, and it's only proper that Pelosi did so.
What on earth would have been the point of her being deliberately rude?

how so Neal? How is it going to "make it tough for women" running in
the next election? Listen, EWOC Bush didn't have a problem with the
entirely-Repuglinut congregation going over there. And, yes, EWOC
said that he didn't want any more meeting with Assad, because "no
progress has been made". Just another red-herring from the war-loving
cowboy Bush.....

about time the Arabs found out that all americans are not nitwits like
Bush, and the people in his administration!
