I like to listen to Rebbe Lon Solomon’s sermons on Sunday radio for
the portrait of the fabric of Jewish culture, custom and society at
the time of Jesus. It never fails to clarify aspects of my
understanding of His behavior and the record of His voice. I don’t
agree with Solomon’s version of Jesus when it comes to things like
Hell and Solomon’s essential embrace of the Left Behind interpretation
of Revelation. In terms of how Jesus is, Solomon is wrong. In terms
of what is convenient to Solomon’s personal values and subjective
judgment, his version of Jesus is a perfect fit. For him. For me, it
is like trying to put the shins of the women that Buffaloo Bill, the
serial killer in Silence of the Lambs, assembles in order to satisfy
some pre-op trans-gender fantasy, on in order to display my devotion
to Jesus.

I am not devoted to Jesus. I am submitted to His Father, Who art in
Heaven, same as Jesus. Like Jesus, I am about My Father’s business.
Literally. It’s a Mission From God, the Categorical Imperative as
Star of Bethlehem.

Nevertheless, Solomon is a wonderful guide of the Gospels/Acts,
specifically, and the larger body of the Jewish, Christian and Muslim
canon. He doesn’t have much to say about the Koran, in which I’m not
particularly interested. The Koran is one method for doing something
with God I’m already doing and, in the fullness of time, I will
explore it more fully beyond the contribution of the symbol for
nothing: zero – “0” – nada, which is a direct result of the voice of
The Prophet directly in the minds of everyone who can understand
Arabic, has made in the achievements of NASA, Bill Gates and
electronic trading. The Bible is all about mind and the voice of
Biblical narrative is essentially the same voice as Ceasar’s
Commentaries or Grant’s Memoirs: a military narrative voice. Moses
was trained to be a military executive in the Prince of Wales sense of
the word. I voice of The Prophet is seductive in a way the military
narrative of the Bible isn’t except for Song of Songs. In most ways,
the Koran falls into the same category of inspired literature as
Revelation, which is a cosmic fairy tale describing the spiritual
events that fulfilled Jesus’s prophecy of the fall of Jerusalem which
were to be set into motion by His military execution and were set into
motion and the Gospel of Mark is the result. The Koran has a different
source and, like I say, I’m already submitted to God and you don’t
have to constantly renew the contract like prisoners to the 2 year
cell phone plan. It works forever.

But I digress. Last week, he discussed the parable of the rich man
who stores up even a surprise surplus without distributing anything to
the poor and it makes me think of Senator Jim DeMint, as the poster
boy for any American white male in the GOP associated with the
Contract With America and represents the core values embraced by Karl
Rove’s core constituency, who is determined to put his stupid
ideological identification with the anti-union conceits of people who
agree with William F. Buckley, Jr.’s conservatism ahead of the
efficacy of Homeland Security.

People are beginning to talk about the mid-terms. This underwear
terrorist illustrates one of the hidden costs of Jim DeMint’s
submission to ideological hog slop: the people who put together
Homeland Security in the Schedule C strata of the federal
bureaucracies are the same people who responded to Katrina and the one
thing that this generation of political appointees have in abundance
is incompetence. The only competence they seem to share is their
ability to seem to sincerely believe in the current party line as
defined by Bill Kristal on FOX News Sunday and Glen Beck and Rush
Limbaugh 24 hours a week. Everything these people touch turns to shit
and Jim DeMint is the poster boy - proxy for these people.

And the people Jim DeMint represents, the people who are reaping the
greatest benefit from the Bush tax cuts, are the class of Americans
who are this rich man in Luke 12, who denies the poor even the
gleaning from an unearned blessing harvest. The core values of the
laissez-faire, gold-based, Free Market principles of William F.
Buckley, Jr.’s conservatism are conceived for and presented by a rich
man’s demographic of Bushies’s core constituency: the Haves and the
Have Mores.

Here’s the thing about the mid-terms: if you are voting for someone
like Jim DeMint, up and down the ballot, you are voting for the same
incompetence the Contract With American has been building into
everything they touch since they came to Congress in 1995. The Ghost
of Dick Cheney is in everything Obama inherited from 43 and this
underwear bomber is a systemic marker of enduring influence of the
generation of incompetent political and career executives Newt
Gingrich brought with him with the Contract With America

The conservative surge has crested. The best thing that can happen to
the GOP is to lose the seats of all the white males who signed the
Contract With America in the primaries to challengers and for all the
challengers to lose in the general election.

Which squares the circle and brings us back to Jim DeMint. The reason
why the underwear bomber got as far as he did is because he hit a seam
in a system designed by people who think like Jim DeMint. He ain’t no
Ghost Whisperer, if you get my drift.

And that’s the truth.
