I wonder if Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor understands the
limited carrying-capacity of a FINITE planet, and that Hispanics
should practice replacement-level birth control instead of vying for
political clout with sheer numbers? ("Viva La Raza" and all that
hype.)

Does this "wise Latina" think the current annual world growth rate of
75,000,000 is likely to create more justice or more misery? Evidence
shows that the latter is clearly happening.

We can't keep cramming more people into finite spaces and expect the
quality of life to stay intact. A tenth child of a tenth child will
not find a miracle cure for lack of elbow room, even if progress
happens in certain fields. We need a steady-state system to replace
mindless growth ASAP.

Be wise, Latina, and deal with physical realities, not just the
politics of the oppressed. Human numbers are crushing the human
spirit.

"How crowded can we make this planet?" is not much of a legacy.

Since TFRs in the USA are right at 2.15, the population as a whole will
become stable, your idiotic posts nothwithstanding.

What's a TFR?

What's a TFR?

----

TFR= Total Fertility Rate, the standard measure. It is a projection of the
number of children a woman will have in her lifetime. Italy, for example
has about 1.1, as does Spain. This imples an upside population pyramid. In
the USA the TFR is about 2.1, which means stable population, since about 15%
of couples are sterile, for reasons no one knows.

Stable, then, would imply no immigration? And what would you suppose
the population would stabilize at? Really, though, I don't believe it
will stabilize at all since as time goes on the TFR is going to go up
as the female population becomes more weighted towards women having
lots of children. The population is going to continue to rise at a
faster and faster rate.

Stable, then, would imply no immigration?

With immigration, the USA is projected to be stable. The native-born
don't reproduce themselves.

And what would you suppose
the population would stabilize at? Really, though, I don't believe it
will stabilize at all since as time goes on the TFR is going to go up

lots of children. The population is going to continue to rise at a

Actually for 65-70 nations, this is already NOT so.
