We need a rock-star PHP programmer to help us on our mission to make
content free to everyone. We are Wikia.com - an open-source company
created by Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia.org: the most
successful free culture site in the world.
Join our small team and have a big impact on the development of Wikia
and the MediaWiki open-source project. We are venture backed by Bessemer
Ventures, Jimmy Wales, Marc Andreesen, Omidyar Networks, Mitch Kapor,
and more, and our goal is to build passionate communities around content
that is important to people. We believe in free software and free beer!
What we're looking for:
* Help us expand MediaWiki software, a feature-rich open-source content
management system based on the "wiki" concept.
* Strong object-oriented PHP skills are a must.
* Experience with the MediaWiki wiki engine is preferred.
* Experience with AJAX, MySQL, Apache, GNU/Linux system administration
is a plus.
Core responsibilities include: Working as part of a small core team of
programmers to extend the current MediaWiki software to ease usability,
add new features, and improve the general feel of the software.
Coordinating with other MediaWiki developers to ensure inclusion of our
code in the primary distribution of MediaWiki.
Secondary responsibilities include: Finding and fixing bugs in the
current code. Participating in software design discussions. Providing
support to our non-technical team regarding software issues.
This position will be a full time job based in Poznan, Poland.
