I am in the UK. I'm looking for half-decent subcompact digital camera.
Price is important and I do not want to spend more than £150.

Amazon UK is selling the Panasonic DMC FX10 for £132.

From comments on the web this seems a nice enough camera (unless I am
overlooking something). The price looks good and may even be an end-of-
line discount.

Could anyone comment on this camera and how good/bad it is. Also
whether the price is actually good.

Thank you in advance.

You can check out the feedback for the Lumix on google groups ofr UK Rec
Photo Misc. I was looking at the range but relegated the FX10 as is has a
comparitively low zoom at only 3x putting in amongst a large number of
heavily discounted alternatives. For a little more you gain heavily zoom
better than 6x depends on what you plan to make images of I want to replace
a Fuji 2800z with something a little more compact but without losing the
zoom for distance work.

I think a super-compact anything with a much better zoom range would
need to have a more bulky lens wouldn't it?

It may not get to your 6X but the Canon IXUS 800 (PowerShot SD700)
has a 4x zoom of 35-140mm in 35mm format. It is out of the price
range of the original poster but is still not a bad price at under
£200.

yes you are right there you have to dig and search around to find
anything compact with better than 4x I found a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ7
with 6x at £149.27 (PCworld business) to be fair slightly bigger than
the FX10 but still pocketable Kodak EasyShare Z885 £112.71 5x but the
one that I really fancy (way over stated budget)the Lumix TZ2
http://www.pcwb.com/catalogue/item/PANCAM03 now I did see them on
fleabay very much cheaper from the guy I got my Fuji off sadly he has
none at the moment but I can wait!

Excellent price Schrodinger, and with the free extended warranty, this is a
great deal.
However, just a small moan... When I ordered a camera from them about a year
ago, despite being told it was in stock, I waited about five or six days for
delivery. Therefore, a call to the customer service line to obtain a
delivery time, may well be in order. Apart from that, highly recommended.

As a random recommendation, I have a Casio Exilim card, if the OP is looking
for supercompact they can't get much smaller than this hehe :-). Takes nice
pictures too!

check the cnet.com site for pretty good reviews.
I'd say try a fuji. I am very happy with my E550 - from turn on to it
being ready to snap is almost nanoseconds, unlike my friends' more
expensive canon ixus and hp units which take ages to intialise!

Hello Derek
Perhaps you should update your daydream. For almost the same price as the
TZ2 you can now get the DMC TZ3, still with the 10x optical zoom in the
compact body, but 7.2 megapixels instead of 6. (See Amazon for instance. Not
sure their links work but here it is anyhow:)

Thanks for the info Paul I'd not seen the upgraded model though the extra
pixels are not treally an issue for me (not bought a photo mag for ages)
that does mean the TZ2 price should start to fall anytime.I'll have a closer
look next time I call in the Trafford Centre
