A sadist fears pain more than death, to begin with, and so fake pain is a
source of amusement to me. In the proactive sense, failure to comply leads
a sadist to exploit your fear for the sake of his own fun. The only reason
why it doesn't work depends on the tolerance levels for bitter feelings on
the part of the sadist.

Emotion is a sign of weakness. Psychosis is a sign of vulnerability. As a
society, we nurture weakness and exploit vulnerability and that's OK. It is
as nature intended.

Democracy pretends to make everybody happy. Fascism succeeds at making a
few people very happy. Hell is a place where only one person is happy.
