According to this tv documentary about living longer, apart from the
usual stuff.. eating your veges, not smoking/drinking, exercising,
etc.,.. having religious faith can add years to your life; seven is claimed.

http://au.news.yahoo.com/today-tonight/video/watch/551eeaf9-522c-3bf5-a74c-435410dd66a7/how-to-live-longer/

it concludes.. 'It's never too late to have the best drug on the planet,
which is a thing called happiness, peace, and contentment"

(If the video is blocked outside Australia, let me know, and I'll make
it available)

BULLSHIT!

Do people being agnostic or atheist offend you? No one is harmed by that.
But guess what - your religious wars, jihads, crusades, inquisitions, free
speech censorship, child brainwashing, pedophilia by "priests," forcing
girls into arranged underage marriages, female genital mutilation, torture
of infants by circumcision without anesthesia, stoning to death, homophobia,
and rejection of science and reason offend us even more, and DO harm people!

Many thanks for that rational, reasoned, and enlightening commentary.
Obviously then the research was flawed, and the results can be dismissed
without consideration.

Of course, those have little to do with religion per se.

Japan and France, for example, are secular countries where a lot of
people still smoke, drink and eat a variety of good food, and have a
longer life expectancy than mostly religious USA. Go figure!

It was not a religious documentary. It was a current affairs program.
However, if religious faith produces that result, then they do have to
do with religion.

Yes, but look at the typical American diet. The program was about the so
called 'blue zones'- places where people live longer on average.

But, frankly, is that really important? Why would religious people be
concerned about a few years here and there when they basically put all
their marbles into the belief of eternal life?

It wasn't about any beliefs, it was just about facts. There was no
suggestion that any religious ppl were trying to live longer.
