*Vice* *Virtue*
Lust Chastity
Gluttony Temperance
Greed Charity
Sloth Diligence
Wrath Patience
Envy Kindness
Pride Humility

I'd probably have 'Lust' first because it is part of learning and
exploring and growing up. Then 'Greed' because if we don't eat after
all that exploration and I'm never rewarded then I can't evolve . If I
were ever permitted 'Gluttony', it would have been to measure the
limits of my exercise, the length and width on both sides, the
strength and weakness and know my limits to say either 'yay' or 'nay'.
'Sloth' would be the rest and weakness or the times when I was too
tired to work and needed some relief from getting all stressed out,
and 'Wrath' should be the tempered rights to assert my conscience or
knowledge of my experience after committing all the other daily sins
in my life!.

The 7 Virtues might seem to be the better regulated means of self
defense

oh! and I forgot Humility or Pride.!

and Envy :-) ...
it seems many are interrelated.
Is the sin or virtue in the particular drive,
or in the degree and way in which it manifests
in behavior?

Maybe to sum up:
*Vice* : Being Human
*Virtue* : Being Human

Would you add any others to the list?

Where does imperfect or malfunctioning brain circuits fit on that list?
Sir would not be pleased.

pride and envy seem to go together and any online adverts & art to me
now are something like porno has become to an addict, and numb any
distractive sensitivities!

I think I'd add any addictions to a list of sins,

Maybe both vices and virtues a way to seek meaning in life...
some more destructive and others more beneficial to well-being.

What of the "theological virtues": Faith, Hope and Love?
http://www.deadlysins.com/virtues.html
Seems they may be necessary for survival in our human predicament.
"And now abideth faith, hope, and love, these three; but the greatest of these is Love".

reminds me of a nearly true story...

'Three men are chatting together about their women. One of them says
'my wife she nearly died giving birth and when she was in a coma, I
found my faith and love and hope'. The second man said 'My mom was
born with a heart condition, we all loved her so much and she had four
of us, we believe our faith helps us, our care and love and hope
encourages us along'. The third man said ' I don't really love my
girlfriend I hope I never ever had to marry her, I am in love with
someone else, but seeing you two are from the same faith as my church,
will you be indulgent if I tell everyone your stories are mine so my
girlfriend won't ask me to have any more babies ?'

That's a good point!
How much choice do we have in our brain-driven behavior?
That includes vices and virtues.
Are they both ways of trying to feel good...or better...
or at least stop feeling pain and fear by numbing or distraction?
Kind of like that old song lyric with "my brain" instead of "the law":
"I fought my brain and my brain won."
