The comments were interesting. I'd LOVE to score couple of young wild
males to cross with my girls. Longer life for one thing, smarter rats
for another.

I did read about a girl who had what she called her "wildlings". Domestic
doe either released or escaped that was pregnant when captured and adopted.
Her wildlings were pretty much unhandlable as far as I can remember. I could
look for the story again if you're interested?

Sure but I'd be willing to bet she did something wrong. Not saying she
did...but I have my doubts. After owning alpaca and caucasion
ovcharka's and macaw's...rats of any kind are easy.

need to register to view. Just put "wildlings" or "Laila" in the searchbox
and you'll find her posts. From what I've read, the doe outlived all her
offspring. They had heart probs and Laila was her last wildling. The Doe,
"Rennie" lived for almost 3yrs.
I don't understand why a wild rat crossing would bring a longer life? I
don't know anything about breeding, but would have thought it would shorten
lifespan if anything. Wild rats are probably smarter, but that's because
they need to be to survive all it's predators. Once babes are born and
domesticated, I would have thought they would be no difference in
intelligence?
