My bun was spayed a couple weeks ago. How long before she calms down, or
is this it until she gets older? (She is about 10 months old now and is
chewing most of the house!) Does anyone have any experiance with how long
they fell the hormonal effects after being spayed? Thanks.

calmer? Well...Cleo was spayed in May. I don't know if I'd say she was
calmer...in fact, she's feeling so good now that she has more than sex on
her mind that she just seems to have more and more energy every day. And
night.

Though, she is much less bitchy now. She still chews and digs, (hasn't
figured out she ain't having no babies so she don't need to make a
nest!!!!!)

Anyway, she's happier, healthier, and harder to supervise, but she does
pull some major binkies. But calmer....no.

In my experience, rabbits tend to "calm" down around 12-18 months old. The
spaying will help some. But, as you're seeing, that doesn't make them want to
stop chewing.

My suggestion is to give her some time and make sure she has plenty of safe
and proper things to chew on. Rabbits tend to chew when they are bored; so if
you keep her environment interesting and varied, you should be able to avoid
_some_ of the chewing problems. Try grass mats or, even better, wicker
baskets; rabbits love these because they can destroy them and throw them
around. Make sure anything you give has not been chemically treated, painted,
shellacked, etc.

Good luck,

It usually takes a few months for the hormones to ease up. It is also
possible that your baby won't show much change, I've had two girls and
one boy and the only changes I noticed were better bathroom habits,
and mounting/false pregnancies stopped. As far as chewing its more of
a rabbit thing than a hormone thing. Try a squirt gun when she chews
places you don't want her to and be sure to provide a variety of good
things she can chew.

Yes, I agree. My April was spayed early on and she never gave up
digging, chewing and chasing the cat! She continued to be a very fiesty
and lovable bunny her whole life. Sadly, she passed on three years ago
from liver cancer... Though I have three other homebunnies, April is
still missed. Enjoy your fiesty bunny and accept that she my never be
"calm". (smile)
