I have not seen any new posts to this group for a long time....is it my
news-reader or has the group gone silent?

Nothing wrong with your reader, it's just been quiet here.
I think all guinea pigs are on a "summer-break"...

This group has been very active in the past...seems to be slow these days
all the same....
kelvyn.

No guinea pigs were harmed in the writing or sending of this post

Well I'm confused, are you Kelvyn or Newsgroup?

Today I am kelvyn, the other day when I was trying to regain control of my
newsreader (which was doing very strange things) I was 'newsgroup'......for
your sake (and because I care) I will try to remain "kelvyn" for at least
the foreseeable future.
best wishes......kelvyn

Well today my hands stink of Rosemary. We've just spent time outside
in the spring sunshine and the little monkeys kept taking off and
hiding under the Rosemary bush. (Very difficult to see black guinea
pigs in dark places). Little cuties that they are...oooh look I can
see a Monarch butterfly on the maple tree. I love spring. How's
spring in the Hawkes Bay?

Warm ,sunny spring weather here. It really is a nice time of year. Do
your guinea pigs show any fear when out in the open. Mine tend to be a
little nervous without something or somewhere close to hide in.

Oh yes always. They have their own hutch and run but we try to give
them a change of scenery and block off bits of grass while we
supervise. They try to find little hidey holes and if we don't have
any bits blocked off they take off to the nearest bush and it's so
hard to fish them out. Silly little wee things...I do love them so...

Let me know if you're ever over my way...come for a cuppa..."coohey,
anybody home??"

Now that spring and the warmer weather is here (southern hemisphere)
it's a good time to be aware, if your piggy is overweight,or has long
hair and gets a wet or a dirty butt.......you must trim the hair
around the bottom, wash it in plain warm water frequently, check AT
LEAST ONCE A DAY for fly eggs (around the butt area)....very small
cylinder shaped white things. This is "fly strike" season. If the eggs
hatch on your piggy the larvae will crawl inside your pig and the rest
is truly awful. The flys will lay their eggs on wet/dirty places. You
may (if you look carefully) see these eggs in your cats food dish if
you leave it out all day (the fly strike eggs wont affect animals if
they are eaten) only if they hatch on the outside of the body.

Funny you should mention that coz last week I cut both piggies bottom
hair and we are bathing them every week too. Will check bottoms
vigilantly now for eggs too. Oh how gross! I thought it was just me
being paranoid about them possibly getting fly-blown but it really,
actually happens? Horrible!
