new guinea pig arriving tomorrow

Recently Malinka lost both his female friends. Tomorrow, the first of
his 2 new companions will arrive. And not a moment too soon, because
Malinka is not the type of pig that likes to be alone. He has a stuffed
animal (a guinea pig!) to keep him company, and during the evenings we
spend all our time with him. But there's nothing like a REAL furry
friend next to you - we realise that.
The reason we had to wait was because both new piggies are still with
their mom. Both current caretakers take no chances and want to make sure
the little ones are ready to face the world. They rather wait a week
longer instead of placing the piggie a day too early. And I totally agree!
So, Malinka will be introduced to his new girlfriend tomorrow, some time
during the evening. The second one is a baby born in a gp-resthome, and
will also come live with us when it's ready. But that might take a
little longer.

She's here. And it's a cute one! Things could not have gone better
between her and Malinka: Best friends from the very first minute.

Yes, that is their primary objective. But they also act as a shelter and
they do a lot of work / research on the dreadful "satin disease".
The little girl that is coming our way was born over there. Her mom was
one of the 400 resqued piggies from Belgium. When she got at the shelter
/ resthome, she was pregnant.

In what way are you spending time with him? Do you let him run around
your living room or just have him on your laps?

Both.
It depends of the mood he is in, what he feels like. If he wants to walk
in the living room, we just sit with him on the floor, and he loves
that. So when he wants some more personal attention he simply climbs
onto my lap. Also, when watching TV, he sits next to us on the sofa.
But now that the new girl has arrived, his attention has shifted more in
her direction (and that is of course the way it should be.

The official name is osteodystrophy. It is often called the Satin
Disease, because it is mostly found with guinea pigs with a "satin fur".
It's a very painful and incurable disease...
