Jus tthought I would check in, not been about for a while. The
newsgroup server i used shutdown.
I have a question about ferrets being toilet trained. I live in the UK,
and Have two ferrets. Generally they are free to roam the house, and
often good at going to the loo in areas I have put down some puppy
training pads. Thing is, recently they have got seriously bad at going
in the right areas.
Does anyone have any ideas to make the ferrets go properly again??
Cheers

Hi Josh,
I also have two that get to roam free often. They are also *pretty good*
about going in the right places but do have accidents occasionally.
Generally, the accidents occur after they have been out for a long time then
go to sleep in one of their private places, like back in a closet,
underneath dressers, etc. Each ferret has about 3 private places to sleep.
Interestingly, when out of the cage, they never sleep together.....each in
their own place.
The accidents always occur near those places. I suspect they wake up and
have to run to the bathroom quick and are either disoriented in their haste
or maybe the nearest paper is too far. I HAVE seen them wake up an RUN down
to the litter area immediately while sleeping in the cage.
I've noticed that there are never any accidents while they are awake and
playing...it only happens when they are sleeping out of the cage. For this
reason, I now usually let them out for an hour or so to play. Once they get
sleepy, I'll put them back into the cage to sleep for awhile, then let them
out again after their nap.
I would suggest trying that and/or putting down more litter pads...put one
near each private sleeping place so they won't have far to run if they have
to go in a hurry.
