Michelangelo, because of being in a very different time.

I'd have to pick Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel.
To travel back in time to when the paints were as Michelangelo saw them
would be a unique experience in itself, and an artist's style is unique,
so it would not be possible to watch a modern artist performing the same
task and get the same experience.
On the other hand, I think I would be disappointed if I travelled back
in time to hear Bach playing, as my ears are attuned to the much more
powerful 20th Century musical instruments. There are arguments both ways
over this: the Early Music Movement (Orchestra of the Age of
Enlightenment, London Classical Players, etc) try to recreate the sound
that the composer would have heard by using instruments as authentic as
possible, and sometimes they produce something which we have lost when
using our modern instruments; but I have also heard it said that
Beethoven would have been delighted to have had a modern piano to play
his music on.
I think that if I had to choose, that because we have Bach's sheet music
and can play it on either modern or period instruments, even though
there will always be arguments (like the one about Beethoven's metronome
markings and whether he misread his metronome) that the more unique
experience would have to be seeing Michelangelo painting, as it is
impossible to know exactly what the ravages of time have done to the
dyes in the paints he used.
The more I think about this one, the more I wish I could witness *both*!

Bach. I don't have the patience to sit for years and watch Michelangelo
paint.

It would have to be Bach I guess...I'm not really into sitting around
watching paint dry. <G>

ps. I have seen the chapel and the painting. It is unique, and marvelous.

A - I am more of a visual person, so seeing this wonderful work
of art would really be wonderful for me.

Bach, Bach Bach and more Bach...easy choice for this music lover. Hmmmmm, might
have wavered had you mentioned Monet instead of Michelangelo

Mich obviously didn't like this compromise and threw his pot of paint in the
Pope's face....

A- Michelangelo, but only on the last couple of days so that I could really appreciate
everything else he had done. The first day or so would probably be quite boring!! if one
can use that word.
