Do some RAR archives *need* accelerators to load? Or are Rapidshare pulling a stunt on us?

Hi, I've been loading files from Rapidshare - photos and graphics from
friends and also some posted music files (I know that ain't totally
legal, but so what...) for half a year. I have a free account with
them, which, among other things, puts a limit on the amount of files
you can load in an hour or a day and disables the use of accelerators.
None of this has mattered much to me before, but lately, when I try to
download larger files (music archives) posted at Rapidshare, the
download breaks off instantly and my download client states that "the
file wasn't found on the server". As this happens about every time, I
don't think that's the true explanation.
I was thinking, could it be that the files I'm requesting *have* to get
the help from a download accelerator to start loading properly? I don't
have an accelerator so I can't try this solution, and it seemed to me
that if they're loaded at Rapidshare which is a very big and efficient
web host, download speed shouldn't be a problem (I have 500 kbps
myself). It never has been an issue before in that direction, and DC++
shows no problems. Or are Rapidshare silently trying to shake off their
free users, to incite more of them to open Premium accounts?

It's a scam to try to make you pay money for what they preceive to be as
better service.

I suspect that too, but it does seem a bit obvious, and when I mailed
their support and asked (among some other questions) if there's
something wrong with the free accounts, they denied this.
