I've only recently become interested in the idea of reincarnation. I
was hoping to find somebody who could answer some questions. I
wonder if someone here would point me to a forum or web site that may
explain how reincarnation works. Is the re-entry of the soul
totally random or not ?

You're going to get a lot of opinions about that question. My best answer,
based on a past life memory of mine, and on good books on the subject (like
those by Michael Newton), and a lot of other factors, is that we have free
will in the matter of reincarnation.

The most popular opposing view to that is that we are ruled by the law of
Karma. The trouble is, people can't even agree on how Karma works.

I don't see a controlling "law" governing our lives. I see a universe ruled by
love, and love must grant free will. Now, we do each carry our own baggage,
and if we are not aware of it and how it influences our choices, it is easy to
think we are under the control of some outside force.

This leads into the search for enlightenment, which allows us to be fully
aware of who we are and to be free of our accumulated negative baggage.

Thanks for replying.

I read about Bridey Murphy many years ago. I've always had a mild
interest in the subject. I was recently at an old book sale --
and picked up two by Jess Stearns. That rekindled my interest in
the subject.

I'm not religious but I have wondered if maybe there was a life after.
I wonder .... where does the soul go when it leaves the body ? Does
it drift aimlessly -- or is it guided ? Does it wander and float
like a vapor -- until it is inhaled by a newborn ?

I suppose our lack of a memory is a blessing -- if we enter a new
life. Does reincarnation accept -- or reject -- a superior
intelligence ? By that I mean a guiding force. I wonder if we
can "grow" when we have no conscious memory of our past life ?

I also wonder how long it is between incarnations. A few months ?
A few years ? Or a few centuries ?

For questions like those, I recommend reading about near-death experiences--
also called NDEs--people who flatlined but were revived. They tell of what
happens when the soul leaves the body. http://www.near-death.com

Generally speaking, love abounds, both godlike and in the form of people we
have known, to guide the individual. We are never alone (unless we want to be)
and never aimlessly adrift.

I believe the lack of memory is at least partially related to differences in
bodies between lives. Body structure, body chemistry, other factors all
contribute to our feeling of "who we are", and make it difficult to remember
being someone different.

Again, NDEs usually refer to a superior force, not personified, but full of
love.

Most people find that each lifetime is set up to help us grow, even without
conscious memories of past lives. They say we make choices and set the stage
for our lifetimes.

That, I believe, is up to the individual. Some want a "rest", some want to
jump back into things.

Some people contend that the spirit realm is not limited by time, so a
reincarnation can even occur "backwards" in physical time. I don't know about
that.

Thank you every much for your help. That link will provide a lot a
reading and hopefully a lot of answers. It's funny how a person
can spend a lifetime and not read or hear much about such an
interesting and possibly important subject. Thanks again and I
will keep an eye on this news group.
