halfway point

Isn't the halfway point between spring equinox and summer
soltice about 8 p.m. UT on May 5, not May 1, from
http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/EarthSeasons.php .
(So that would be 5:30 p.m. NDT May 5 here in
Newfoundland and 4 p.m. EDT May 5 in New York.)

So anyway I celebrated some tonight but plan to
celebrate some more Saturday night and Sunday morning.

But I might celebrate Beltane even later, at the
full moon the night of May 24, since spring is
somewhat delayed here in Newfoundland due to
cold ocean current and drifting sea ice instead
of the Gulf Stream, even though we are south of
Ireland. (Full moon is 1:55 a.m. NDT May 25,
so the night of May 24, which is Victoria's birthday.)

Again note that the number 55 is important to me,
and that in Roman numerals it is LV, which I take
to mean LOVE.

Victoria played a big role in some of my FTE
mailing list writing of 1995. I noted that
a young Victoria looked a little like a
young Sarah McLachlan. And as may be
clear from the below, I related Victoria
to Ceridwen (from the cluck) and Gaia (from
the little bit of you).

just before the Monday on which the Victoria Day
holiday is celebrated here in Canada.

How was your Beltane?

Also on Sept. 5, 1991 I fulfilled the following line
from Sarah McLachlan's song Into the Fire

I will stare into the sun until its light doesn't blind me

but I didn't yet fulfill the following two lines,

I will walk into the fire until its heat doesn't burn me
And I will feed the fire

LV in Roman numerals is based on letters from the Latin alphabet.
The Latin word for 'love' does not include those letters, not does its
modern Italian equivalent. Therefore, the Roman numerals LV cannot be
equated to 'love'.

I don't use Latin, but English. Roman numerals are
often mixed with English these days. Look at it
as a poetic leap/connection if you will, or as
a sign of my mental illness. :-)

Victoria is Queen Victoria. Her birthday is May 24
and it is celebrated as a holiday in Canada on the
Monday on or before May 24. On that weekend many
Canadians go camping and have outdoor fires so I
have said in the past that it is the Newfoundland
equivalent of Beltane, again partly due to the
delay in warm weather here, though it was 20 C
yesterday and today here.

The amusing part is that here there is a scheme by which business
subsidise their employees' meals when no in house facilities are
available. That is what LV means here - Luncheon Vouchers.

That's interesting. She is barely remembered here and never celebrated.
The present Queen may be about to surpass her longevity record, just as a
matter of interest.
