Healing Stones for the Vital Organs by Michael Gienger & Wolfgang
Maier © 2009 Healing Arts Press ISBN: 978-1-59477-275-7 189
pages Paperback $16.95 (U.S.)

There is an impressive amount of information contained in this
relatively short book. It is laid out in a concise format whish is
easy to consult and understand, and contains clear, colorful
illustrations of the stones under discussion.

The first 20% of the book grounds the reader in the philosophy and
mechanics of the “Organ Clock” and its relationship to daily living.
Although this covers a lot of territory in a few pages, it is easily
understood thanks to the clarity of the writing (considering that this
is a translation from the German, I was anticipating some possible
linguistic foibles, which I did not encounter).

Once the groundwork is laid, the authors move directly to the heart of
the matter – or in this case, the lungs. Each organ system has eight
stones associated with it, with some stones doing double duty (there
are 83 stones for 12 systems). It is important to remember that these
are organ systems and not the traditional Western medical organs,
consequently proper locations for the application of the stones may
not seem “logical” to one trained in Western medical thought.

Also, since the organ systems are associated with activities beyond
what most of us are accustomed to associating them with (the large
intestine, for example, is obviously associated with elimination, but
not just physically. It is also associated with eliminating feelings
of sadness and opening ourselves up to new experiences), it may take
an effort to make the connection for some readers. Once the
connection is made, however, the logic becomes apparent.

This book is intended to provide a broad overview of an extremely
complex subject. As such it does not provide in-depth explanations
for the association of certain stones with the various organ systems.
These must, at least on this level, be accepted on faith, although the
reader could expand their knowledge by more research and
experimentation.

Each section of the books is broken down into physical and non-
physical functions, symptoms of disturbances, and ways to strengthen
the system. With the exception of the strengthening section (which is
a short paragraph at the end of the chapter), each of these sections
discuss how the associated stones affect the system.

I would recommend that you quickly skim the book overall, to get a
general feeling for it, and then concentrate on the organ system(s)
you feel a need to work with. Do not attempt to overdo it. Take your
time and the benefits will become apparent.
