Once again I find myself caught in an unanticipated “cycle.” I just
got done with a run of novels, and now find myself dealing with a
small avalanche of music for review, although I am not complaining
about it.
Debut albums are always an unknown. There is no reference to know
what to expect. This is the second debut disc to come tome recently.
Like that previous album (“Lady Moon” by Kellianna) this one impressed
me from the opening bars.
It is not the usual sort of music I would seek out, since it relies
more on electronics (synths, drum synths, etc.), but that did nothing
to downplay my appreciation for the artistry shown by Flash
Silvermoon. It is a blend of rock and blues. I found myself being
carried along without conscious thought.
The only way I can describe her performance is “compelling.” I
thoroughly enjoyed my time listening to this disc.
My one wish is that she would have included track times (or at least
total running time). That’s a personal preference, obviously and
makes no real difference in the enjoyment to be derived from the music
itself.
I know that there are folks out there who will disagree with my
assessment, just as there are those who will agree with me. For those
who fall in the middle ground, I recommend that you take a chance on
this CD. If you would like a sample before buying, go to Flash’s
website and listen to some of the samples.
I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating: If we want to have
access to music by those who share our worldview, we need to support
them. The best way to show that support is by buying their CDs. Oh,
and letting them know that we really appreciate their music (and we
really hate having to wait for new releases).
