Blood of the Dark Moon by Adrianne Brennan © (2009) Freya’s
Bower ISBN: 978-1936222070 Paperback 288 pages $14.99 (U.S.)

Those of you who have been reading my reviews for a number of years
may remember seeing a review of this book back in 2007. This is a
revised version, and in print format instead of eBook format. I
remarked at the time that I prefer print copies since I’m not terribly
comfortable with eBooks – I’ve gotten better.

In my previous review I commented that I have always liked books
written be people who have a feel for the magical world. I also like
vampire stories. And a book which combines these two themes is
guaranteed to hook me quickly. This book set the hook almost from the
first page and I remained hooked until the end.

As I slipped back into this world of vampires I remembered just how
much I had enjoyed reading it the first time around.

First, a very important word of warning. This is an ADULT novel – not
pornographic, but graphically erotic. It is most definitely not
suitable for readers under the age of 18. Having said that, I must
also say that the story is driven by its plot, not by its eroticism.

Certainly there are clichés in this book (come on - Vlad Tepes?), but
you have to expect that in a vampire-themed book. There were,
however, twists and turns which took me totally by surprise in this
magico-erotic work.

Adrienne has produced an introductory work which promises much more if
she continues to develop the relationships. There is a wealth of
material to be investigated, as well as side paths to be explored.

It is well-written, engrossing and a fun read. It won’t teach you any
great mystic secrets, nor will it try. It will entertain you and that
is sufficient as a reason for its existence.

There have been several subsequent offerings in the (pardon the pun)
same vein, and they have continued to showcase Ms. Brennan’s
considerable talents as an author. Her writings are definitely aimed
at an adult audience, and the magic is minimal, although clearly a
familiar undercurrent throughout them. If magico-erotic stories (with
a slight hint of submissiveness) are not to your taste, you can save
yourself the time and expense and move on past this offering. If any
(or all) of the above appeal to you, I highly recommend this book (and
any other offerings from her and the website www.freyasbower.com) to
you. You won’t be disappointed, I guarantee.
