Vale the Dyna Soar

today at the age of 72.
There's a lot about Ray, many of you didn't know.
He was a devoted husband to Colleen and doting father to 5 daughters, (one
of whom died aged 17 in a road accident) and a loving grandfather to his
grandchildren.
On the 1st April, 2000, Ray was given the bad news that he had leukaemia and
had, at the most 3 or 4 months to live.
Well Ray was a fighter and he put up a mighty good fight and defied the
Doctor's prediction and soldiered on. The treatments he had for his
leukaemia, caused him to have many uncomfortable side effects, yet he
wouldn't give in and even carried on working. His treatment and the fact
that he lived for almost 11 years longer than predicted, helped doctors in
their research into leukaemia, for which we can thank him.
He was an ex soldier and a Vietnam Vet, we owe him a big thanks for that.
In civilian life, he was an engineer and only retired from work 2 years ago,
at the time he was responsible for the satellite communications for channel
9 Perth. Those of us who watched sports and news programmes relayed from
overseas can thank him for the smooth relay. Many years ago he owned a TV
repair shop, he enjoyed tinkering with TVs right to the end.
He travelled overseas extensively, on one occasion he was sent to London by
a Perth radio station to cover the wedding of Prince Andrew, not sure if we
can thank him for that, but I will.
He was once the sound engineer for Kevin Bloody Wilson, I guess those who
attended Kevin's concerts during that time can thank him for being able to
clearly hear Kevin's ditties, though no doubt some wish he hadn't.
Most of all he was my friend, a sounding board, a guiding hand when I was
new to Usenet, a great host when I visited him in Perth and a delightful
guest on the occasions he stayed with us, for which I cannot thank him
enough.
If there is an after life, I'm sure Ray will be in charge of the sound
engineering for thunder and other heavenly sounds, well that is what I like
to think, so from now on, when ever I hear thunder, I will look up and give
a bit of a smile and a salute to my dear friend, he bravely fought as a
soldier in Vietnam and he just as bravely fought Leukaemia.

In what Unit? What Corps? What years?
If he was AATTV, SASR, or Infantry, I'd take my hat off and say "Yes, he did
fight bravely."
Any other "Vietnam Vet" was just there for the duration.

serve in, and what years?

If none of you fucking Sorearse apologists can answer it, you're as weak
as piss, and he'll be forever remembered on Usenet as a "Vietnam Vet"

Oh shoot. I am **so** sorry to hear that!! We'd had our differences on
and off through the years but he was always on my 'friends' list.
I still have an 'evaluation' copy of Win 98 he kindly sent me when my
system died, and I still recall the battles we had with Bigpond to
make them remove the kiddie porn groups from their newservers!!!
Please pass my belated condolences on to Collen and family. It was
only this morning I realised I'd somehow removed ozdebate from my desk
so haven't seen this til now!!
Ray really *was* a fighter and the world will be a sadder quieter and
less cheerful place without him.

Got to be fair to Clancy he was spot on with his summing up of the
Mucus personality.
Even in a thread dedicated to mourning the death of a greater man than
this scumsucker could ever be he still has to parade his paranoid
obsessions for the world to see... and be reviled.
To say he is beneath contempt almost elevates him from the gutter in
which he truly belongs.
Apart from saying that even now I'm amazed at how low this thing
