I'm running Windows XP sp3. I haven't been able to find a good keyboard
booster despite months of trying. All the ones I come across are really
intended for other purposes. Does anyone know a good (preferably free)
keyboard booster for XP, i.e., a program in which you can define a
short abbreviation to type a long word anywhere--like the autotext
function in Microsoft Word?

Thanks for any help.

I use Superkeys so, e.g., typing #at will drop in my name, address and
telephone number below a sig. separator.
Be aware that many AV programmes etc. will find that a .dll of Superkeys to
be malware as it's effectively a keyboard logger, but if you want a utility
that monitors the keyboard...!
The .dll in question has been used for malicious purposes, but this can
happen with anything, not only software.
I'd suggest that, if you're interested, you get SK from a reputable site (I
use Softpedia) and block the .exe and other components with your firewall so
that they can't get out.

"good" is relative.
If you meant by "bad" is that none works the way you wanted, then you might
want to make (program) one yourself using AutoHotkey. Define which keys you
want, the conditions to activate, and what to do once the conditions are
met.

I can't find a program named Superkeys anywhere on the Softpedia site.
I'm not sure what you mean by blocking the .exe and other components
with my firewall. The firewall blocks programs, not specific files, in
my browser unless you make that program an exception.

You can find it here, at TUCOWS: http://www.tucows.com/search.html?
search_scope=win&tree_id=&cost=&tag=&search_terms=superkeys&search_type=soft

In both of the firewalls that I've used I can define blocked files - IE is
