Running XP and Firefox.
I have used two (pirated) copies of Office 2007. The vendor assures me that
they work fine.
I sent a copy to a mate, he has no problems with it.
Office 2007 works, but I cannot install any updates. They download but fail
to install.
Is there an easy fix?

What was the point in wasting both your and the OP's time with this inane comment?

Mrs. Culpepper was almost in tears. "Oh Marie," she said to her maid, "I have reason to suspect that my husband is having an affair with his secretary."
"I don't believe it for one minute." Marie snapped. "You're just saying that to make me jealous."

Because I gave a valid point.

The bootleg copies are cracked and if you would try to update them
you'd lose the activation and be rendered with a useless copy.

You said sheesh as though you were thoroughly disgusted with the OP.

Then he would have been told so. And it's not a bootleg. It's just stolen.

He specifically said *pirated*
That generally means software that's been hacked to avoid activation
issues.

If you steal something you probably should not complain about it

and thus my "sheesh"

To avoid such issues one of course can use Open (or Libre) Office

it's a free alternative to MS Office

I use Libre Office and it works ok.

however it is not 100% compatible with MS Office so I understand that
that could be a problem.

If I simply need to create a document...no problem

but If I need to work with an MS Office document,
some of the formatting is different at times.

As to the OP's problem...I'd just leave it without the updates
I can't imagine what real difference it would make

1) Learn not to oversnip, you left NO context whatsoever.
2) I think you're talking about the OP complaining of crashing. He posted a few threads - look at the others, if it isn't in there, he might have told me directly in email.

Get a license for your Office 2007. Microsoft has protections to keep
people from updating pirated software. Same thing happens with Windows and
even Media Player. That's what you get for stealing. At least they were
kind enough to let your run Office 2007 in the first place because they
could have written the code to lock you out entirely.

His reply got right to the heart of the matter: Microsoft does not support
updates for pirated software, so solve the problem by getting a license.

So you ADMIT that Open Office is not as good as Microsoft Office (I agree),
and yet you support pirating of Microsoft software. So, you want to take
away income from Microsoft, a company that treats its employees well, and
always has treated them well, employs tens of thousands of people within the
United States, and supports boatloads of charity causes. You should be
ashamed of yourself for being such an asshole.

Microsoft's support probably wouldn't help him anyway.

Real support comes from people in here, who shouldn't care about licenses.
