The Color Laser wifi printer cp1525nw (*otherwise* a great
litle printer BTW) started printing tons of black bands with
a particular version of hplip at one point. It's doing it
A G A I N with version 3.12.4-3.1.2 (hplip-3.9.8 is OK).

Did you report it (in the right place)?

Long time ago. The problem comes and goes almost with alternating
version #'s, like someone fixes it and then someone else fixes the fix
if you know what I mean.

Not much you can do though except report it whenever you notice it
broken. I've had to patch 'foo2zjs' a few times myself as it kept
breaking the page numbering system (CUPS job list would always show
'unknown' for the page count). Eventually they figured out how/why it
kept breaking upstream and the problem stopped coming back.

I took this a little further so here's the rundown for anyone who might
be googling for the info....

The printer's official name is "LaserJet CP1525nw color" but there is
no such driver.

Existing drivers are:

- HP Color LaserJet cp1515n
- HP Laser Jet cp1520 Series
.. not to mention several other makes with 1520 models

see what I mean? The cp1515n drivers will work but results can be
unpredictable, some were fixable by using older versions of hplip as had
been suggested in many places on the net since this printer came out.
It can be a bit confusing especially since only the 1515 drivers use the
word color and these show up far ahead of the 1520 non-color named
drivers near the bottom of the long drivers list (in Yast).

THE DRIVER TO USE IS THE "HP LaserJet cp1520 Series" driver, no need to
backlevel hplip and no problems with blackspace either.

HTH whomever.
