I use xfce4, so I mostly use thunar as file manager. One thing I would
like (but until now could not find a solution for) is to only see
files based on a certain mask. For example only graphic file, only
video files, only document files, …

Is this possible?

I also use sometimes dolphin. So if this has the possibility (also),
it would also be nice to know.

Thunar, I don't think so.
In Dolphin drill to Directory and use "Find".
Type file type, for example to show only
gif images type "*.gif". (without quotes)
Or to display only png files "*.png", or to
display only doc files "*.doc", or jpg files that
start with t "t*.jpg" or "t*.jpeg" and so forth..

The ‘problem’ with this is that it is not confined to the current
directory. It also searches in the sub-directories. But it is better
as nothing.

Thanks.
