Login Retries on 12.1
Hi All, If I have a typo when logging in to my 12.1 OpenSUSE installation via ssh or telnet, I get kicked out and have to re-connect. In earlier versions, I had three attempts. I have hunted for a retries parameter anywhere, but can't find where it would be. I would have thought the logical place would be /etc/login.defs, but only have... more »

Scanner difficulty and a work around
I have a Canon Lide 30 scanner (USB connection) that has worked well for years with all versions of openSUSE. It continues to do so provided I boot up with it fully connected. If my machine is running and I attach it, then use Yast in a GUI to connect it up, it will quit responding to the USB mouse. The only thing... more »

Substitute for the old kpackage
I miss the old "kpackage" as I used it to find file locations in specific RPM packages and to see the contents of an RPM graphically before I installed it (or NOT). The new kpackagekit just jumps right to install. I did a "help" on it, but could not see any way of configuring it. Dolphin also jumps to kpackageKIT rather than lets me... more »

KDE 4.8.3 puzzle
How come KDE 4.8.3 was available via the Cinnamon update manager and not YaST? -- Cheers DrT ______________________________ We may not be able to prevent the stormy times in our lives; but we can always choose to dance in the puddles (Jewish proverb).

ghost images
I just noticed this (*again*) while TS-ing the youtube colors issue (to which it is probably unrelated). With firefox still open on the youtube page on another desktop, the ghost image of pictures such as a video frame show through in the thunderbird edit pages. Weird (nvidia card).... more »

JACK is living-dead
os-12.1(64), latest updates: I've read that one of the best ways to start JACK is via the audio connection kit dialog start button. What I'm trying to get to produce sound is the hydrogen drum machine which also tries to start JACK. Clicking the connection kit start button ends up with the error list... more »
