Hello,

It seems that after an upgrade from OpenSUSE 10.2 to 10.3 on a dell xps
m1210 laptop, I can't seem to get a stable connection.

Short version of the story:
- opensuse 10.2 worked just fine, after installing the ipw-firmware package
- after the upgrade to 10.3, I get dropped connections every 2-5 minutes

Long version of the story:

Currently using iwlwifi driver. The iwl3945 didn't seem to be even able to
connect. The issue is present regardless of the wifi AP I connect to
(although all the ones I've tried were 802.11G), and appears regardles of
amount of traffic I send.

I'm at a loss as to how to solve it. I'd appreciate any hints/suggestions,
maybe somebody else ran into the same problem

I have Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop with the same network card:

0b:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG

Network Connection (rev 02)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Unknown device 1020

Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 169
Memory at efcff000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K]

Capabilities: [c8] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [d0] Message Signalled Interrupts: Mask- 64bit+

Queue=0/0 Enable-

Capabilities: [e0] Express Legacy Endpoint IRQ 0
Capabilities: [100] Advanced Error Reporting

Capabilities: [140] Device Serial Number 1a-1a-a7-ff-ff-02-13-00

On installation of SuSE 10.1 when the laptop was new, SuSE detected the
card and did the basic setup (I had to configure the card in
Yast-Network Devices - Network card).

One on-line update that included a new kernel lost something and the
card wouldn't work.

I installed SuSE 10.2 to update from 10.1 and the card works again.

I suspect you should try again using ipw3945 not ilwwifi. In Yast
software install search for packages with ipw in the name, wlan,
iee80211, and microcode, and make sure they are installed. (There may
be others - I haven't tracked down the complete setup yet, but mine is
working).

The files I do know about are:

microcode_ctl-1.15-8
wlan-kmp-default-1_[kernel version]
ipw-firmware-7-31
ipw3945d-1.7.18-29

lsmod reports these modules loaded (among others):

ipw3945 191520 1
ieee80211 34632 1 ipw3945
firmware_class 14080 1 ipw3945

ieee80211_crypt_wep 9344 1
ieee80211 34632 1 ipw3945
ieee80211_crypt 10112 2 ieee80211_crypt_wep,ieee80211

In var/log/messages I can find these lines:

I hope this helps.
