huawei conection, pppd died 8-bit not clean

i had opensuse 11.1 and an internet connection working well by umtsmon.
i did a online update and after it umtsmon stop onnecting. It says

Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyUSB1
Terminating on signal 15
Connection terminated.
Receive serial link is not 8-bit clean:
Problem: all had bit 7 set to 0
Modem hangup

i thought it had changed some packet with the online update so i carry
the computer to a place with ADSL and i upgrade to opensuse 11.2, but
the problem remains, the same log on ppd.

any help?

You have changed something is the mode of operation of umtsmon, perhaps
is the way you have set authentication. NORMALLY, systems are now set
up to "dial the phone", let the ``modem'' negotiate a connection (you
may remember using an old 28.8 telephone modem and hearing the modems
screeching at each other when the connection started - then silence
when they figured out how to talk to each other). Once you have a
``modem'' connection, you want to start shoveling bits. Twenty years
ago, this meant looking for a Login: prompt on the screen of the
computer, then the Password: prompt, and so on. When microsoft
invented the telephone in 1995, they decided that this was to
complicated for the windoze user, and adopted an automatic mode where
the ppp application (Dial Up Networking) automatically logged you in
without having to remember such complicated things as a username or
password. Most dialin connections have been using that mode ever
since. The point is that the Login: type of connection is done in
ASCII before pppd is started, while the automatic mode is done in
binary mode by pppd _after_ the modems connect - but without looking
for an ASCII "Login:" prompt.

You have told 'umtsmon' to look for an ASCII prompt - and the ISP you
are connecting to hasn't configured their systems for that.

I've had the same problem over the weekend. Now I've fixed the problem
by just not using umtsmon. One way is to use the Network Manager (with
kdenetworkmanager). The only problem is that you have to figure out the
phone number of your UMTS ISP in addition to the other data.

An alternative is

vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux

You can install the rpm without any trouble. All the python and other
files the rpm depends on are downloadable from OpenSuSE 11.2
repositories.

The disadvantage of this solution is that it takes some CPU power, the
advantage is that also the SMS is working.
