Hello,

I haven't switched to SUSE yet, but I'm trying to line up a transition
plan. One element is finding drivers for my equipment. Does anyone know
if there will be a Epson V500 scanner driver? Or am I asking the wrong
question?

Sane (open drivers) also not for V500

the only thing that you can try is scan with Vuescan

the V500 is listed

Thanks you for the great references. I guess I will have to wait for
Epson or someone to develop a driver. Or use WincrapX!

www.avasys.jp/english has drivers and 'iscan' software for Linux - both
scanners and printers by Epson.

Or get another scanner. When I wanted a Linux compatible scanner I
wandered into my local charity shop, noted the makes and models of all
the scanners they had in stock, checked them out on the compatibility
lists, and went back the next day. Bought an HP6300C that was probably
traded in on fashion grounds. It's built like a tank, scans beautifully,
and cost me about the equivalent of $10.

Another scanner would defeat the point of having the V500 for its
capabilities/price combination. Besides I have an HP4c. I can see the
difference in the quality of the scan, even at 300 dpi. You also can't
scan slides at 6400 dpi with the older stuff.

That's right. It has some partly new technology. It appears drivers have
not caught up yet.

My apologies for not being able to read your mind and understand that.

Then it is probably not supported.

and so you should. you'd never find a working scanner in the v500 class in
a charity shop. Like suggesting going to the local scrap dealer to buy a
fully working ferrari for $50
