Description: Questions, answers & general talk of Slackware Linux.

Slowness, I/O and kswapd issues
Hi all, I've been experiencing slowdowns on my machine that last several seconds. Using iotop it is apparent that kswapd and various btrfs threads are periodically maxing out the disk I/O capability. These invariably freeze machine (mouse still works but not much else) until they settle down.... more »

libpopt
Hallo alle miteinander, "aaa-elflibs" has an older "libpopt" library than the "popt" packet - that can make problems with "samba-4.0.5". Viele Gruesse Helmut "Ubuntu" - an African word, meaning "Slackware is too hard for me".

Cobol comes to Slackware
So the changelog today has another big bunch of updates, including "open-cobol", which I probably wouldn't have noticed, except for the statement "We're finally a mature operating system. Enjoy. :)". The slew of updates is prefaced with "Thanks to Robby Workman for help with many of these updates!" but I don't know if he's responsible for the... more »

XFCE : Mixer applet crashes when scrolling
Hello In two slack14 install (32bit and 64) bits, I installed the XFCE desktop. I installed the Mixer applet. When I mouse scroll on it, it crashes. In 13.37, it used to raise volume down and up. How to make the mixer applet works again? Thanks -- Kevin

Audio predicting what I was already thinking. In the next 7 days Obama will concoct some great event, bomb Syria, you name it.
... Oh, Obama is "One and Done" and Romney's President like you predicted over and over and over again? What planet do you live on? ... Projecting will get you nowhere, loser. I'm still waiting for your apology regarding my Internet speed. [link]... more »

import stereo sound from blue socket
The blue socket on e.g. a sound card or motherboard is alleged to be line input. I can set up a stereo device to send sound to this socket. How do I coax Slack 14 to input this sound? Later on I can use some ripper program to build up a file for burning a cdrom. But how does Slackware recognize that I have an audio file to send and store?... more »

X multilingual?
Hi, want ot choose Slackware as my regular os because like very much the idea of elegance through simplicity and minimalism. However when reading the comparative description: [link] there's something which worries a little... i.e. the feature "Multilingual" is specified as unsupported... what does it mean... more »

Reliability of wireless connection?
I have a requirement for a 24/7 wireless connection to a network. I have tried various combinations of pci/pci-e wireless cards and 80211g or 802.11n. All my attempts have used wicd to open the connection. In one case the computer is in the same room as an AT&T U-verse gateway. In another case the computer is two walls away from... more »

Anyone using Blender?
I tried the Slackbuild and also a later version downloaded from the Blender site. Both versions take me back to the kdm signon screen. Never had a program do that to me before. Slack 14 64 BIT. John Culleton
