I'm running Slack Current guest in VirtualBox on a Slack 12.2 Host.
I've got problems with MPlayer r29789-4.3.3 which come with Slack Current.
mplayer from the command line works fine with an http video stream,
both video and sound.
But with gmplayer from the command line I get lots of messages like:
[png @ 0x90224f0]Found 1 unreleased buffers!
and then I always get a popup:
Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device.
Then just the sound plays, but no video
In gmplayer Preferences I can select from:
xv x11 gl gl2 xvidix
They all give the same result error popup.
I have setup the ~/.mplayer/config file which is picked up by mplayer.
mplayer runs OK with any of:
vo=gl or vo=gl2 or vo=sdl
But these don't seem to be picked up by gmplayer.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Peter
I've half answered my own question.
gmplayer -vo sdl
works OK, but still gives lots of
[png @ 0x90224f0]Found 1 unreleased buffers
errors.
But "gmplayer -vo gl" and "gmplayer -vo gl2" both result in a
"MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: decode video"
fatal error popup.
It seems that gmplayer ignores ~/.mplayer/config
I'm happy I have a workaround.
Left wondering if the problem is "virtual" due to use of VirtualBox,
or if it's a "real" problem which appears on "real" Slack installation.
Cheers,
Peter

GMPlayer has been effectively abandoned by the MPlayer developers, might
be time that Slackware did the same?

Oh.
From the many alternative guis I have pseudo-randomly picked smplayer.
Have installed smplayer-0.6.8 on Slack Current guest in VirtualBox.
Works perfectly.
Also on real PC running 12.2

This is my own choice as well :).
What's wrong with the mplayer-gui ?
Thanks,

If you mean gmplayer have a quick look at current discussion about
removing it from the MPlayer source tree:
http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mplayer-dev-eng/2009-June/061706.html
Hmm, thanks for that. I'm talking about the 'traditional' interface that
comes with the Blue skin normally and which is now part of SL13, unless
this is gmplayer.
In general I prefer this to smplayer, just like I prefer xine-gui to gxine.
Anyways-
