When I plug my camera to my computer (Slackware 13), here's the message I
get:
Failed to mount "16M Removable Volume".
Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call",
sender=":1.100" (uid=1001 pid=8189 comm="exo-mount --hal-udi /org/
freedesktop/Hal/devices/v") interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume"
member="Mount" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0
destination="org.freedesktop.Hal" (uid=0 pid=2928 comm="/usr/sbin/hald--
daemon=yes ")).
I know it is not a matter of groups. Any suggestions ?
Uncle Jean
Typically useless spew of irrelevant HAL verbage. Try mounting it
manually, read-only...

Are you certain that your userid is part of the plugdev group?

---------- Slackware - Because I know what I'm doing. ------
why is your computer trying to mount a *camera*?

Because it sees the 16Mb card without the Windoze bloatware "utility" [sic]
apps, I presume.

ah, you're talking about an actual camera, not a webcam... of course... ;-) i
had just been trying to get my webcam to work, so that's what i automatically
thought about...

Well, I did all I could to be part of this group. :o)
So yes, it is.
Uncle Jean
Yeah ! :o)
Thanks to all,
Uncle Jean
so you were *not* in the plugdev group before...

I'm confused because I really added my user to the plugdev group and by
the way, when I typed "groups", as root, pludev was listed. For a reason
I don't know...
Uncle Jean
did you log out and in again?

root != user. so whether plugdev shows up as root is irrelevant when you're
plugging in the camera as a user...

Yes.

I see...
Thanks,
Uncle Jean
