Follow Up to Windows Problem

I was certain the problem was hardware, specifically
a failing hard drive. That would be the only explanation
for similar behavior if it were a linux system.
I was wrong, and my friend found her own solution.
She booted off the Windows 7 install disk and
"repaired" the system. It was fast, so I am not
sure what was done, but it might have been a complete
install of Windows over the old system.
Whatever the process, the fix seems to have cured the
problem. Her system is up and running at full speed
with all of her data drives back in.
