Probably staring me in the face, but...
Does anyone have a URL to a .tgz for libx264 for Slack 12.2? (.so.59)

Might be worth a look?
Haven't used this myself.

I shall give it a sniffing. Cheers.
Let me guess, you've installed a binary package that has libx264.so.59
as a dependency, which shows as an error when you try to start the program
.
Usually in such a case, the pre-packaged dependencies will be
available from the same site that hosts this program you downloaded
and installed.
I have a x264 package for Slackware 12.2
(http://connie.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/x264/pkg/12.2/) but
unfortunately for you its library version is already at "67" instead
of "59".

ffmpeg error. I think this particular install is a bit messed up, so
maybe its time to do something fresh on another partition.

Maybe a symlink hack?
UDATE: Grabbed the libx264 you mentioned, and symlinked it
ln -s /usr/lib/libx264.so.67 /lib/libx264.so.59
I'm now recording some old material using arecord, but here's the weird
thing, I've now got a symlink from the libx264.so.59 symlink to
libx264.so.67 and I've no idea how it got in there. ;\
It'll do for now as this install is due for replacement anyhoo.
Cheers!
I've got one from VLC for openSUSE 11.1 (which is the same age as 12.2)
but IT is already at 0.80:
libx264-80-0.80-3.1.i686.rpm
(it is an RPM package, of course, being out of a YUM type repo for openSUSE).
