can send via telnet, not otherwise (sendmail)
  I have two hosts: a DB server (no DNS) which sends to a relay or "smart" host and the relay itself. I can telnet to the relay via port 25 and send (and the mail actually gets there): [myname@dbserver ~]$ telnet mailhost 25 Trying 10.156.80.131... Connected to mailhost. Escape character is '^]'. 220 localhost.localdomain ESMTP Sendmail 8.13.8/8.13.0; Thu, 12 Nov... more »

sendmail won't use relay
  A RHEL5 client set up properly to send to another host as a relay doesn't do it. Yes, the "DS" field is set up in sendmail.cf, sendmail daemon restarted a million times, etc etc. Everything looks fine, it just doesn't work. Why does it try to send the mail itself? Shouldn't even attempt a DNS lookup. The mailhost (relay) can do that but here, the... more »

using a 32-bit library on a 64-bit machine
  Hi. We have a mixed bunch of 32-bit (i686) and 64-bit (x86_64) Fedora 11 machines. I created a library on one of the 32-bit machines by issuing the commands g++ -c List.cc ar q libList.a List.o ranlib libList.a Suppose that I attempt to use same on a 64-bit machine: g++ -o foo foo.o -L. -lList... more »

Mount point - timeout
  Hi, I am using a script where I use a lot of mount points ( mount xx.zz.cc.vv:/sss/ /mnt/qqq ) Unfortunately, if the resource is not available, the system is waiting for minimum 10 min ( maybe for ever :-) to get access to the 'drive' Is there a way to tell the 'mount' NOT to spend more than 2 min on each... more »

Guide to the Secure Configuration of RHEL5 (Updated).
  *CROSS POSTED* The always gregarious folks at the U.S.A's NSA re-released the 182 page 3rd edition of "Guide to the Secure Configuration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5" about a week ago. This is the single most comprehensive document for hardening your RHEL5 Tikanga system. Indeed, if you do /everything/ in this publication,... more »

RHEL5 and problems with cryptsetup luksOpen
  Kurt wrote: ...cryptsetup uses kernel crypto modules. Try booting your older kernel. If that works, check the release notes. (I don't remember seeing anything, but ...) If there's nothing in the release notes, file a bug against the current kernel using whatever level of support your contract allows.... more »
