Hi,

When installing the photoalbum software from fotobuch.de (which at least
initially seems to run), a few errors popped up during font installation in
c:\windows\font. These error messages had a weird, alsmost unreadable font of
some script type. Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks , Mat Nieuwenhoven

Umm, You're posting in a linux newsgroup, using a Newsreader for OS/2,
with an error message, that's clearly for a windows program.

Are you running linux? If so, which version. Are you trying to install
the program under wine? If so, can you copy & paste the exact error
message? Can you post the exact link to the download you're using
to try and install?

Perhaps newsgroup comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine would be a
good place to ask. See you over there.

Usually, I'm pretty good at noticing stuff like that. Guess I'm a bit
off today :).

I'm using PMINews on OS/2 because so far I've not seen a newsreader on Linux
that is as easy to use. For instance, organize subscribed newsgroups in
grouplists per subject, even though they are from different news servers.

Sorry, should have stated that. I'm running an up-to-date Mandriva 2007.1
free, upgraded from 2007 non-free (bought Powerpack DVD). Wine 0.9.43
downloaded via winehq, uninstalled older wine (0.9.42), verified old wine
files gone, installed new wine. PC is a Athlon XP2400 with 1G RAM, video card
is an Sapphire (ATI) 9000. Screen resolution 1600x1200. 2G free on the /home
disk partition where I am trying to install.

I am using the program Designer.exe available from
http://download.fotobuch.de/designer_setup.exe . Installed with "wine
designer_setup.exe" from a console.
The installation of the photoalbum software complained with an unreadable
error about the font folder, however file it was trying to install did show
up in the font folder eventually (after retrying the installation enough
times). Just an wild guess: the font folder was named 'font', while the
installer showed 'Font'. I did rename the folder to 'Font' just to be sure
somewhere along the process. Is Wine case-sensitive to folder names?
I've retried the install several times, and there error messages got less and
less. I don't know how to create a dump from this error box. However, the
same weird font shows up when starting winecfg from a console prompt. Below
you find the results of the wine errors from starting both winecfg and
Designer from the console.

Thanks, Mat Nieuwenhoven

I didn't know it existed, should have searched for a wine newsgroup first.
I'll repost my reply do David Hodgins with crosspost. I thought first of
something Mandriva-specific when I saw the weird font (such as a missing
system font that Wine expects).

Thanks, Mat Nieuwenhoven

No idea why the error was unreadable, but I found the cause of the
error itself; see http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9382
for a description and a fix. If all goes well, the fix will be in
the
next release of Wine by month's end.
Thanks for the problem report!

That's a quick fix indeed. Thank you very much.

I believe I am seeing the effect from bug 8983
(http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8983) . Winecfg is much less readable
than the examples in this bug. I (Mandriva) is probably missing a font.
