I just went to run a screensaver (moledule) as a performance test and discovered that I no longer have it installed. equery file xscreensaver | grep molecule nope. gone. removed. xscreensaver-demo -- and I see a pile of screensavers removed Into a gl package? Hello, As I don't have a permanent connection to the internet, I'd like to "absorb" whole websites, so as to be able to surf them offline. Are there some tools on Gentoo to do that ? Thanks a lot !

Gnome 2.26 trouble

Hello group, I always was very happy about the conservative way Gentoo masked packages and have never experienced any trouble I couldn't solve my myself (and Google/RTFM). So I was of good hope when I saw that Gnome 2.26.3 was masked stable and decided to run a emerge -uD world/revdep-rebuild. Wow, what a mistake.... more »

gnome menus empty

Anybody with a kde 3.5 / gnome 2.26 system know why gnome menus would be missing? I searched for bugs relating to gnome missing menus and they refered to a conflict between gnome and kde 4.1. I don't have kde 4.x. The bugs are also marked as resolved. I suspect the fix involved fixing gnome to work with kde 4.1 and integration with kde 3.5 is broken.... more »

Whose brilliant idea is it to mask kde3? I've tried KDE4 at every minor release since 4.1 and it is still garbage. Too many idiotic decisions have been made that reduce its useablity to nil and in my opinion it is simply not ready. Some of the nastier aspects I discovered in less than 8 hours of use:... more »

Hi u all :) I've completely reinstalled my broken gentoo, and almost anything seems to work, except my realmagic remote control. I've already tried to emerge lircd, then downloaded and install lircd 0.8.6, but I get always the same answer "lircd: there's no hardware I can use and no peers are specified"... more »

Hej! Has anyone experienced slowdowns after updating from 1.5 to 1.6? When I run the 1.6 version switching tabs in firefox takes 2 seconds, switching maximized windows or desktops takes a lot longer. Entering keys into input fields feels sluggish etc. When the update came a lot of things were reinstalled but going back to... more »

I have run into a really strange problem, and #Gentoo and #Gentoo-Kernel don't seem to offer any help. I have two Asus Crosshair II Formula motherboards. One has the 2009 BIOS (AMD 9550 CPU, 5 HD) and the other the 0040 BIOS (this one has two GF8600 cards and AMD 9850 CPU, 1 HD), otherwise they are the same, same type of memory.... more »

stop nfsmount on network loss

Hej! On my laptop there is a problem when NFS shares are mounted and I move the suspended laptop to another network where the NFS server is no longer reachable. In this case I can no longer suspend and "umount -t nfs -a -f" usually results in a system lock. The solution could be to change RC_NET_STRICT_CHECKING (/etc/conf.d/rc)... more »
