visiting flashy websites
Has anyone figured out how to view these shitty flash/java(script) websites without installing a shitty proprietary piece of shit (like an Adobe plugin)? iceweasel + gnash ain't cutting it. I can't even function on banking sites with the latest standard debian tools. To be clear, I blame the banks for that.. but that doesn't... more »

Upgrading my Debian stable's squeeze (v6) to Wheezy (v7) ?s.
Hello! Now that Debian v7 stable is out, I would like to get this newest stable version. Do I just change my /etc/apt/sources.list to wheezy from squeeze and then apt-get dist-upgrade? Here is what my file shows: ... ...deb [link] squeeze main contrib non-free deb-src [link] squeeze main contrib non-free... more »

Change date/time format in Pan newsreader?
I'm one of several dozen Americans who not only understands the international 24-hour time format, but who also prefers it to the archaic 12-hour "AM/PM" system. The Pan newsreader for Linux I am using only displays AM/PM, and I would also like to display dates as YYYY-MM-DD, including the full date/time... more »

nethack and power failure
Apologies to the group for showing up and tugging their sleeves. I had a game of Nethack in progress when I was hit by a power cut. Now I can't start nethack. I've tried re-installing the game, completely removing the game and doing a fresh install, and no luck. I've been playing nethack on linux since Red Hat v.1, and this has happened before... more »

How difficult to port programs to ARM debian?
I'm enthusiastic about the rPi which has Debian wheezy as its default OS. But both programs that I tried to install/port: dvtm, wily; failed. I don't want to have to look into C and especially not C+, but IIRC they failed because of missing libraries. Apparently X86 *nix will have a mass of libraries, which... more »

Can the new broom halt the decline of Debian?
Even the newly elected leader, Assistant Professor Lucas Nussbaum, University of Lausanne, of the Debianistas Party acknowledges that not all is as it should be in Debian land. From <[link]> QUOTE However, I often have the impression that the project is losing momentum,... more »

Remove need for User & Password ?
I want to experiment on the rPi without a keyboard. It seems that if you could remove the need to keyin the User & Password, and that `login` just proceeded and gpm was running and lines of commands where visible on the screen, you could paste-in the initial commands off the screen. The EOL to activate the CLI is also obtained from the screen.... more »

Prevent apt-get from holding back a certain package - how?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi. In our organization we have just started experimenting with creating a meta-package that will install a few utilities which are not installed by default. This works great and our custom repo works just fine. However each time we update the meta-package with new dependencies, as we... more »
