Why do you need to know that? Do you really know what you're doing?
Depends on the version and also on your
(FD)CONFIG.SYS/(FD)AUTO(EXEC). BAT settings.
Use "mem/d" command.

I'm using freedos for a custom application and need to know what
memory is occupied by the kernel and command interpreter.
I'm not using high memory for UMB's etc. but if freedos does use some,
where?
Where are xxx.exe files loaded? Is there a preferred segment for an
exe ?

Hello,
I have a FreeDos boot disk which also contains some games.
When FreeDos boots from the boot disk I only have to type the path to
the game and hit return to start it.
I want to make an own boot menu where I only have to choose the entry
for the game I want to play and hit enter to start it (much like the

By making sure in the bios that it is first in boot order,
then with freedos fdisk and sys make it a bootable disk.
Then put additional freedos system files on it.

I have tried to install win 3.11 on to aFreeDos prtition and all it says is
Cannot run windows while the currently installed protected mode software is
running.
Quit the protected-mode software, and then try again.
But I have done this on a FAT 32 partition - I wonder if that is the
problem - or if not what is the protected mode software initialised by
