I am attempting to run an old compiler I own under free dos.
The program is Cross Code C++ by Software Developement Systems
This program uses DOS4GW.
Back when I was using Dos 6.22 (long since lost :( ), I had FILES=45
and BUFFERS=30,0.

I am still fiddling around trying to make it work. I was wondering if
anybody has run into something like this. My web searches so far has
turned up nothing.

It's not hard to find install disks for 6.22.

FILES=127 is not out of the question. A compiler may have gobs
of files open at once.

Also, for FREEDOS, try it without the FILES= entry at all.

Thanks for the tips. But, alas, no luck :-(

It would appear that there is an incompatibility. I had the compiler
just compile to assembler, and that works, it is the assembler that is
causing the problem, of all things. And I tried just about all the
combinations I know of for using the config.sys file commands to fix
the problem (which isn't saying a whole lot). This is really too
bad. There is a LOT that I like about FreeDos, and I will probably
use it some other stuff I have planned.

I did, finally, manage to find a set of disk images for the DOS 622
install disks. And I have DOS and the compilers working on an old
computer. But Like I said, I sure wish FreeDos worked out. If I find
a solution, I will post it here.
Thanks to all those who took the time to help me.
