This is what DID work in MS-DOS 6.22 in the config.sys file:
DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\XMSDSK.EXE 50000 512 1024/E
This is what I put into the fdconfig.sys in freedos:
DEVICE=C:\XMSDSK.EXE 50000 512 1024/E
That did produce an E: drive in freedos and I can switch to
it, but it will not allow a file to be copied to it nor can I pull
up
a directory of the drive. Here is the error message I get
when I try to do either of those two things:
Volume in drive E error reading from drive E: data area:
drive not ready
(A)bort, (R)etry, (F)ail?
I should mention that, during bootup, there is a screen that
has a selection to be made. There are four options and the
default is number 2 which will not work at all. Number 2
prevents bootup from completing and produces an error
message about a missing
command.com interpreter.
Options 1 and 3 allow a complete bootup and I am using
option 3. Please advise which option I should be using all of
the time to get freedos to work like MS-dos?
One other thing I should mention is that my harddrive is
setup for FAT 32 in case that has anything to do with my
problems.
I really need your help on the bootup options and your
advice and the syntax on how to setup a ramdrive as these
two problems are holding up some VERY important work
that I must do!
Thanks in advance,
