With changes being made by the IRS about non-profit
organizations having to file a form 990 no matter how small
their income, does this apply to individual clubs
or are we covered by national's filling?

Michael,

Per TI WHQ, all U.S. Toastmasters Clubs are required to file the IRS
Form 990 via an "e-Postcard" no later than May 15, 2008.

Here's the URL for the document from WHQ explaining the process...

Hope this helps.

As a follow-up to this, apparently some clubs have a fiscal year ending June
30. I tried to file for the club of which I'm Treasurer, and it wouldn't
let me file yet. That means that some of us will have to file after June
30.

Read the instructions at the TI Website. If you got that message, it's
an IRS error. Let TI know so that they can ask IRS to fix the error.

I went through that a month or so ago. TI said they would notify IRS.
Then, on Monday, I got the following message from TI Onote the third
paragraph:

April 15, 2008

The May 15th deadline for filing the 990-N Electronic Postcard
is fast approaching!

To help with the filing process, we have put together a set of
detailed instructions to help you. Before beginning the filing, please print
the instructions and read them carefully.

Note that some clubs will not be able to complete the process of
filing the 990-N until after June 30th because the club's year end is not
December 31st.
Step 2 of the detailed instructions explains what to do if this
occurs.
