I know this isn't a Giganews-specific newsgroup but I am a TW/RR
subscriber and I'm hoping with the recent flood of TW/RR newsgroup
users switching to new usenet hosting sites, someone who's recently
subbed to Giganews can help here, especially since none of the
Giganews ngs show up on Google.

Anyway, my problem is that I signed up for Giganews under their 2 GB
plan (no SSL add-on, btw) and I've been able to pull newsgroups,
headers and messages but thus far have been unable to reply or post to
them. I get a 440 error, specifically :

+++++++
Windows Mail could not post your message. Subject 'Test', Account:
'news.giganews.com (1)', Server: 'news.giganews.com', Protocol: NNTP,
Server Response: '440 posting not allowed', Port: 119, Secure(SSL):
No, Server Error: 440, Error Number: 0x800CCCA9
+++++++

When I enable Secure Password Authentication and/or SSL in the account
properties box in Microsoft Mail which I use to read newsgroups, I
get a 501 error. No response from Giganews' tech support.

Any help is appreciated.

Do'h! Nevermind. I missed the blurb on the site about needing to
fully activate the service during the "free" 3 day introduction period
to be able to post. I understand the logic about trying to limit
spamming, but they dont make it really obvious that to post, you have
to pay your subscriber's fee. Hopefully, this thread will help
someone else in the same situation.

I had the same problem; lack of information. I tried Usenet.com first
and with a 7 day trial not being able to post I quit them. They should
have told me. At least Giganews help gave me an answer.
