see your IP, you'll get a lot more info. When your provider is down, the

Only if you are connected directly to the modem. If you are behind a
router, you will have to access the router's status page. Or just go to
one of the many sites that display your IP.

That's a Windows-only command, and you might need a space before the
slash character. And you will only get your local LAN IP address, not
what your router presents to the world. To see that, you will need to
query your router or use an outside source. One that I trust is:

It's PATH header shows Chuck was using Comcast's Usenet service back
when Comcast still had it. Comcast dropped Usenet back in 2008 (which
they contracted through Giganews to provide the server but Comcast
managed the accounts).

Datestamps are shown but the user has to look at them. Suspect this is
a new user visiting this newsgroup or just started using Giganews and
doesn't have sorting setup in descending order and threaded (assuming

But Google is "smart" about some search terms. If you use that search
string, it first shows the answer to the question, then shows the search
results below it.

days to live. Yep, Giganews keeps posts around a long time. I've seen
several new Giganews users caught by the long retention while not

configured their NNTP client to sort descending by date. Spammers do it
quite often where they will pretend to offer help by linking to their
own site for some product they are shilling. They search for keywords
to promote their product and don't care about datestamps. Along with
future datestamping (to get their posts to the top of the list), makes
them easy to catch and killfile.
